I am looking for North Florida DeVanes, particularly those who descend from Benjamin Franklin DeVane, 1796. This Benjamin was born in Bladen Co, NC, later moved to Lowndes Co, GA, then Quitman, Co, GA, Madison & Taylor counties, FL, then finally to Plant City, Hillsborough Co, area. He had 6 sons, all who fought in the Civil War:

I'm having a hard time finding an ancestor and I'm hoping a Hendry or someone in Perry may know.

My GGGrandfather was James Richards Woods (born3-9-1876 and lived most his life in Perry). I recieved his death certificate and found that his mother's maiden name was Hendry with her first name listed as Jane. I have a birth year for Jane Hendry about 1843. I know her married name was Woods but I can't find out who her husband is (possibly Daniel Woods??) I think one reason I can't find her may be that Jane is possibly her middle name and not her first name? Does anyone have any info on a Jane Hendry?

I can't seem to find them in the census either! It's frustrating... so any info that anyone has please let me know!

Enigmatic Florida Kinsey’s

Almost all Research on my Kinsey line points to Georgia or the Carolina’s.

However in the 1910 Fisher County Texas Census my Great Great Grandfather Luscious Lafayette Kinsey says that he was born in Florida. All other evidence says he was born in Georgia.

Lucius Lafayette Kinsey ( LL or Fate Kinsey)
Born 1858 in Florida or Georgia
Died 1917 in Texas

Parents
John Kinsey
Sarah Elizabeth

He went to Texas with Brother or Cousin Frances Marion Kinsey (Frank Kinsey) about 1872. According to oral history they went down to the Gulf in Florida and took a ship to Texas, possible stopping in Louisiana. After their arrival at one of the Texas ports they went north to Bell County and settled till Luscious married then he and his family went to Fisher County Texas.

I’m looking for any evidence that he was born in Florida and where that line leads.

Any help would be Appreciated.

Woods and Weaver from Perry, Florida

I have been researching these two families for a number of years and hope to connect with anyone else that happens to be doing research as well.

**William Woods (1809-1860's?) and his wife Elzey (1819-1860's) My great great grandfather is his son. His info is Daniel G. Woods(June 8,1837-Dec 4,1879) married Susanna "JANE" Lundy Woods (1842-1926).

**Andrew J. Weaver (Feb 27, 1817-June 1 1883) married to Nancy Dickey (July 19, 1821-Nov 5, 1882) and my great great frandfather is their son William Norman Weaver (Jan. 31, 1851-Aug 23, 1900). He was married to Mary Elizabeth Peacock (1852-1928). I already have a lot of info on the Peacocks.

If anyone is researching these families I'd love to compare notes.

My Dad, Curtis Thomas Redding and his twin sister, Alma Myrtis were raised by Lee Molton Adams and wife, Irene from 1923.

Their mother Alma (aka Laura) died when they were born. Alma was the daughter of Julia Tuten and Felix Adams (marriage list spelled Julia Fuller). Lee was Alma's brother. Julia was the daughter of Pierson Michael Tuten and Amanda Elizabeth Bostic. A death record shows Alma was buried in the Adams cemetery.

Dad's father was William Thomas Redding born 8 Apr 1887 in Live Oak. He is listed in the 1920 census as William W, husband of Alma L and in 1930 he is listed as W G, father of Juia and Van Lee. I can find no other information on Redding (his father, mother, siblings)

Any Redding info or other would be appreciated to fill in pieces.

Shiloh Cemetery

I am looking for information about a Cowart family that lived in Perry. Annie Mae Cowart was born there June 19 1906. She married Bennett Thornton Kennedy c 1922, not sure if that was in Perry or not. I would like anything on this lady and her family. I don't know who her parents were. We had always believed she was born in Georgia, but her obituary in 1991 said she was born in Perry and also she had a brother named Clifford Brown of Perry. I don't know why her brother would have a different surname; perhaps he was a half brother. Anything on this family would be a blessing. Thank you!

Howdy!

I was googling for Stephen Godwin and found some information about a Stephen Godwin that was murdered in Mitchell County, GA, on 2 Dec 1884. Because I'm researching TWO Stephen Godwins in this area, and one's wife was a widow in 1885 (according to the state census, anyway), I was thinking it might have been the Stephen Godwin that was born in GA in 1859.

Does/Has anyone else done research on this? My apologies if this steps on anyone's toes or brings up information that someone would rather keep quiet.

Hi all!
I am new to family history. Years ago I was driving from Florida to my home in Texas.
While passing through Salem, I drove past a small cemetery just off the main highway.
I stopped and found 7 small headstones all belonging to the Lee family. I was so suprised! The Lee name is part of my geneology.
Does anyone know anything about that cemetery and who the families of those buried there might be??

I have a great uncle that died in Perry, Florida in 1918. I am trying to find out if there are available newspaper archives from that time period? He was a locamotive engineer and from his death certificate it looks like he died from burns. I am wondering if there was a train wreck that was in the paper?

Could someone please do a lookup for the following families in Taylor County Cemetery or Marriage records:

John Scoggins b. abt 1855 in Georgia
married Elizabeth b. abt 1855 in Georgia
they are in the 1880 census with a daughter Nancy b. 1878
and
Melton Scoggins b. abt 1850 in Georgia
married Melvina b. abt 1862 in Florida
they are in the 1880 census with a daughter Jane b. 1879

These boys father, Solomon Scoggins (b. abt 1820) is living with John in the 1880 Census.

This is the last info I can find about these three men. I suspect Solomon died soon after the census, but have no proof.

If you are able to help me with a lookup, if there aren't tons of them, could you please let me know what Scoggins (or Scroggins) you find in Taylor County?

My gg grandfather ,Green Albritton is buried in Franklin County ,FL. He died from an injury in TN during the War. I just learned Jasper A is buried in the Lynchburg Old City Cem. He died in the war. Another brother , Joseph died near Charlottesville ,VA . He is buried in the U of VA Cem. Keziah was widowed during the war. Where is Daniel buried?

I amtryinto find out who my grandmothers family was.

Her name was Maude Ivey Cox.
She first married a James Richard Mixon and had one daughter named Doris. After he died she married my grandfather Samule Drew Fife.

I am looking for her family. She married my grandfather in Perry, FL. So maybe she also married Mixon there too! I need to find her parents names.
