I am trying to obtain some antebellum background information regarding Ringgold and Catoosa Counties. My ancestor, Richard Scoggins and his wife, Mary Doggett Scoggins moved from NC to Catoosa County in 1852. They were members of the Salem Baptist church. I am curious as to why they might have made such a move. Their family lived in Rutherford County, NC, so they were moving away from both their families.
Richard died shortly after they arrived. Mary remained until 1867/1868, mostly I think in hopes that her son George William Scoggins would return from his service in the Confederate Army. They moved to Missouri in 1867/1868.
Thank you for your assistance.
