Hi John--

Your query intrigues me, as it obviously ties into my HAMMOCK family, but I can't make your names and dates fit into my data!

My 4-gts-grandfather was William HAMMOCK (b. 1775-1794, died between 1820 and 1830 prob. in either Jones or Crawford Co., GA. He was a son of Robert and Millenor HAMMOCK of Lunenburg Co., VA and GA. William's wife was Mary (maiden name not yet known), who was born 1780-90 and died ca 1843 in Crawford Co., where her will was probated in that year. [She was preceded in death by an unmarried son, Welborn J. HAMMOCK (b. ca 1800, died 1830-37 in Crawford Co.)].

My notes show that William and Mary (_______) HAMMOCK had these ten children, as identified by the estate records of Welborn J. HAMMOCK and of his mother Mary:

1. Simeon b. 1790-1800 d. after 1860

m. 1820 Wilkes Co. GA: Elizabeth Jane MOORE

2. Welborn J. b. ca 1800 d. 1830-37 Crawford Co., GA

3. Lewis M. b. ca 1802 d. 1867 Sumter Co., GA

m. 1820 Jones Co. GA: Nancy FEAGIN

4. Talbot D. b. 1803 d. 1874 Crawford Co., GA

m. by 1830: Rebecca _______

5. Mansel W. b. 1805 d. ?

m. 1826 Hancock Co., GA: Martha Ann AMOS

6. Sarah b. ca 1807 d. ?

m. 1823 Jones Co., GA: James MOORE

7. Elizabeth b. 1810 d. ?

m. 1829 Crawford Co.: John BRYAN

8. Jane C. b. 1813 d. after 1860

m. John TANNER

9. Catherine b. 1817 d. 1886 Coffee Co., AL

m. 1831 Hancock Co., GA: Geo. Washington AMOS

[He & Martha Ann above were children of George AMOS(S)

and Anna BENTLEY of Lunenburg Co. VA & Hancock Co.,

GA]

10. Martha A. M. b. ca 1819 d. ?

m. 1836 William P. WRIGHT

My 3-gts-grandmother, Catherine (HAMMOCK) AMOS, named her first son Wellborn William AMOS (b. 25 Jan 1834), presumably for her father and brother.

I see from the 1850 census of Crawford Co. that T.D. [Talbot D.] and R. [Rebecca] had, among others, a son "W. W." who was age 19 in that year (b. ca 1831). Is this perhaps your William Welborn?

I would be most grateful for any corrections and/or additions you might offer to the information listed above on the family of William and Mary HAMMOCK.

Best regards,

Ron Head (Montgomery, AL)
