I am looking for any information on my great grandfather, George Marion Johnson. Born Jan. 20, 1895 in Milan, Dodge County. Family states that he was originally a Miller and was adopted by Johnson. His real mother's name is ? Etta Pittman. He was a farrier in WWI. I am unable to locate any war records or County records on Pittman, Miller, Johnson. Zion Hope Church Cemetery, I believe it's on Rt 341. I'm looking for information on John Edward McGinty. The Dodge County Cemetery index lists him there with the DOD as Dec 21, 1949. But I've not been able to find any mention of his passing on that date in any local newspapers.

With or without a picture, I'd appreciate if someone could verify the date on the stone.

Deeds for Dodge County

Even though Dodge county was created rather late (for a GA county) {Created in 1870 from Montgomery, Pulaski, Telfair Counties]

I would think that some of you have done Deed research for family living in the county.

Deeds can be very helpful to people doing research as they often give names and locations that would help in knowing more about the family.

If you have any deeds, I hope you'll consider transcribing them, and then using our "forms" to get them posted permanently.

If you're beginning to be concerned about what happens to all your gathered data when you're no longer researching, it is wonderful to share this info now -- and it will remain to help others.

I am researching my Rountree lineage and believe I my have found a link to Moses Rountree (1785-1852) who is buried in Hopewell Church Cemetery in Dodge County (according to Pioneers of Wiregrass). Is there anyone who might be willing to get out to this cemetery and take some photos of Moses & Celite (1795-?) graves?

Also the connection I am seeing is thorugh his son William (b 1822) does anyone have any info on him?

My GG Grandfather was named James "Bones" Henry Weldy and was born 6/6/1876 in Dodge Co., GA. d. 8/1940 in Dodge Co., GA. m. 8/30/1891 to Lillie Luella Thomas b.10/1881 d.1937. His father was J.W. Weldy who was born 8/1/1841 in Perry Co., Mississippi. d.10/1914. J.W. enlisted in the Tennessee army in 1861 and served under Bragg and Johnson. J.W. married an I.J. Miller 12/13/1894 in Dodge Co., GA. (I believe this to be his second wife) Does anyone have any information on this individual or any other Weldy's in either area? If so please let me know. I would love to exchange information and would be very greatful for any help provided.

Uncle Bill was born 06 December 1907 Eastman, Dodge County to Minzal Leonard & Bertie Varina STRANGE Hood Bailey & died 30 January 1968 Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis County, Georgia. He appears in the 1910 & 1920 Dodge County censuses. In 1930 he & Aunt Annie & their son Leonard are living with Aunt Mary & Uncle Walter Bryant Jump in Vinings, Cobb County, Georgia.

Per the 1930 census Aunt Annie was born about 1906.

I would like to find Aunt Annie's maiden-name; their marriage date; Aunt Annie's birth & death date; Leonard's birth & death date; whether Cousin Leonard married; if Cousin Leonard was their only child; obituaries; pictures.

I will gladly share what I have gathered on the Drake-Bailey families.

I am looking to find if my second great-aunt Claire married my second great-uncle Irvin Dale Jones in Dodge County on 12 November 1930? I cannot seem to find her in the 1930 census & her parents, my second great-grandfather Minza Leonard Bailey & his second wife Bertie Varina STANGE Hood Bailey, were in Miami, Dade County, Florida by this census where she was not listed with them. Many of the Bailey siblings stayed up here in Georgia & I could not find a listing of their marriage in Dade Counties marriages on Ancestry so I was thinking perhaps they wed in Dodge County?

I am looking for information about my second great-aunt Mary Ann 'Annie' BAILEY Jump & uncle Walter Bryant Jump.

Aunt Annie was born 29 September 1902 Eastman, Dodge County, Georgia to my second great-grandfather Minza Leonard Bailey & his second wife Bertie Varina STRANGE Hood Bailey & died 06 November 1963 in Pulaski County while residing in Dodge County.

Uncle Walter Bryan Jump was born 02 September 1901 in Eddins, Dodge County, Georgia to Jessie & Mary Jump & died March 1977 in Ben Hill County, Georgia while his last Social Security Benefit went to Dodge County.

In 1930 they were living in Vinings, Cobb County, with their son Gerald, born about 1923, & Uncle Reneau Bailey, his wife Annie -?- Bailey & their son Leonard born about 1928. They appear to have lived in Florida as well for his SSDI shows Florida as the state of issue.

I am looking to find their marriage date; Gerald's birth date (& death date if he is dead); did Gerald marry (if so whom & when); if there were any other children; place of burial; obituaries; pictures (will gladly share the Bailey pictures I have).

I will also gladly share the Bailey information I have thus far.

I don't mind sharing information with anyone but not on a public message board that has a policy regarding copyrights and the material also is for family use and is not meant to be posted on public boards.

Much of the information found in this book comes from our personal family bibles, from interrviews with family members no longer living, and from a multitude of compiled records from family documents.

The family photos should not be posted on line as they too are the property of the family and I have not been given permission to post these items online so if anyone who is a member of the Futch family or a descendant of the Futch family wants to contact me privately I will be happy to share the family information provided they promise not to post the same on a public location on the internet or to send the same to any organization.

New Genealogical Society for Dodge County

In spring of 1999 a few enthusiasts got together and formed the nucleus of what is now Wiregrass Genealogical Society. It includes members from Bleckley, Dodge, Laurens, Pulaski, Telfair & Twiggs county. Membership is growing every month.

The organization plans to function as a catalyst for promoting interest in genealogy and related fields, as well as serving as an alliance to aid participating members with their individual research. Special group projects are also planned for the future.

Society meetings are held at various local locations on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Join now!!

I am looking to connect the relatives that were visting at the funeral to the Conley family. Particularly, the Conleys and McIntyres. I know that some of those listed below are just friends of the family, but perhaps the list may be of help to researchers of other families. I believe that date of the funeral to have been Feb. 10, 1945. I have a copy of burial notice from Feb. 15, but no year was given, saying the funeral was on a Saturday. Does anyone know if there are cemetery records or death records for Dodge County for the period 1870-1900? I am searching for information on when the following people died and where they might be buried; all lived in Pulaski County during the period 1808 - 1870, but in the portion that became Dodge County in 1870. These people were all alive in 1870:

I am in search of information in regard to my Uncle Thomas Ryals & Aunt Ann Jane BURCH Ryals.

Uncle Thomas was born 1835 to William R. Ryals & his second wife Charlotte CLARK Ryals in Montgomery County & died in 1898. Aunt Ann Jane was born between 1840-1841 to Reuben & Charlotte Burch & died in 1915. She & Uncle Thomas married sometime before 1859 when their son John G. Ryals was born per the 1860 census for Laurens County. Their other known children were William R. Ryals born about 1861, Charlotte Ryals born about 1862, Orren/Orian Ryals born about 1864, Eliza Ryals born about 1873, & Hamilton Ryals born about 1876.

As mentioned in 1860 they reside in Laurens County, I have not been able to find them in 1870, 1880 they reside in Dodge County, 1900 cannot find Aunt Ann but son Orren is living in Dodge County, & in 1910 she is living with son Hamilton & his wife Sara Ellen HARRELSON Ryals in Dodge County.

Any information on Uncle Thomas, Aunt Ann Jane & their family would be greatly appreciated & I will be more than happy to share what I have on the Ryals-Childs-Conner-Cook family.

Claudia died in May, 1926 in Dodge County three months after giving birth to a son, Claude Lane. Her husband's name was JULIUS O. BEARD (JUDE). He was born in Rockdale County.

I'm searching for info on my 4xgreatgrandfather, Samuel WILLIAMS, born 1800-1804 in NC, married to Harriet. Family is in the 1850 Pulaski County census, arriving in GA by 1824. The direct line I am researching is as follows: Children of Samuel & Harriet were Lavenia, Greenberry, David W., Anarthy, Mary, Harriett, Daniel Samuel, and Sarah Ann. Daniel Samuel married Elizabeth Jane MOORE, daughter of Benjamin Tolbert MOORE and Elizabeth? Jane COLEMAN. Their children were John, David, Willie, Winney, Julia, Penny, Samuel Bennett, Mattie, & Emma. Samuel Bennett married Lula Powell, children Ruby, Daniel Newton, Nicholas Glenn, Gertrude & Myrtice. Family also related to the Dykes, Cravey, Peacock, Knowles & Davis families along the way, just not in my direct ancestral line.

The Williams family still lives primarily in Telfair Co (I do not), in McRae and Milan, many are buried in Chauncey, Dodge Co. I have no information beyond Samuel Williams other than his approx. birthdate in NC (unknown where in NC). I am looking to confirm some info on his descendants, though primarily interested in clues to his ancestors. I'm also looking for information on Elizabeth Jane MOORE,and her parents/family, Elizabeth? Jane COLEMAN, born approx 1826, possibly Laurens Co, d. 1875 Dodge Co; Benjamin Tolbert MOORE & family, b. approx. 1823, d. 1898, poss. I am trying to help my uncle (who has terminal cancer) and his children piece together a family history. His family was from Dodge County. He is Rueal Franklin "Frank" Jump, he retired from Robins Air Force Base (Civil Service). His great-grandparents were Hiram John Jump and Mary Jane Handley Jump. His grandfather was Rueal Anderson Jump who married Nancy Kathleen DANIEL . His father was Rueal Austin Jump who married Mary Alice Scarbrough.

He had a sister named June Jump (Higgenbottham) and a brother Benard Peacock Jump (both deceased).

I do have a photo of his great-grandfather's family and a obit of Mary Jane Jump and also one on his uncle Ralph DeWitt Jump. The obits do not have a date of death they are just clipped out of a paper.

If anyone has any info on the Jump family please email me information.

Looking for parents, siblings, children, etc. of Elisha Harrell and wife Jane Richardson. Found their marriage in Bulloch Cty. 1804, but was told they may have lived in Dodge or Telfair Cty. after the marriage. My son-in-law comes from a son John Harrell m. to Elizabeth Pruitt, who are found in Leake Cty., Miss by 1850. Any Pruitt information would be appreciated also.
