The only information I have is his mother's name is Cheryl (sp?) and her father was an officer on the military base, pretty high up like a coronel or general. My brother was born in either 1968-1969 time frame. His father was Ronald David Lancaster. My brother was named after my Dad but I am not sure if Ronald and David were used or even what order. I am not even sure he is a Lancaster. My father died a few years back and never did find him. It is now my quest in life and any help anyone can give me would be so appreciated. My Mother was able to see him once and said we look like twins! I am now 36 and would love to finally meet him. PLEASE HELP ME!

What elementary school would a child have gone to if they lived in base housing in the 60's? I remember more from the old the photos I have in that time period, but I remember very little about the school. I seem to have some memory that it was a new school at the time. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Descendants of the Jackson and Toson's from Baker County.

These are the facts most of the Jacksons that lived in Baker County and Dougherty are interrelated group. The jackson married into the Tosons family from Baker County then immigrated down the old Pretoria Station ot Road to Oakridge
drive, Washington Street, River road, Marin Luther King drive, and Cotton Ave. We were a very large family especially back the the late 1800's. The average child born to our people were 8 to 16 childen per household. Our trademark we love horses, had alot of Deacons and Rev in the family. My GGgrandfather Tony Jackson use to raise horses for the Fargus and partime for the branch family up the Leary road.
My GGreat Uncle Scarley Jackson remembered the Hawkins,
Adams, Chatmon, Coles, Bragg, Williams people around Baker County from along time ago to dougherty borders.
Our people are said to have some connection to General Andrew Jackson wife Rachel. Uncle jack mention that Tony Jackson people from Tennessee and surrounding North Carolina probably worked for those people. We need to find the connection.I think they use to breed horses for them.
but more research is needeed. The Jackson immigrated down to Dougherty County on the old Pretoria back in the day
accordeing to Uncle Jack. Here is a clue to our relatives the
men would always put PAPA Or UNCLE in front of their names. Papa Jack or PAPA Tony etc. UNCLE NELSON or UNCLE Eugene. This half of the Jackso married into the Toson family from Baker County. If you would like a family list email me.. Love jeannie! amor!

POW/MIA Korean War, Dougherty Co. ROBERT FRAZIER

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Dougherty County GA as his home of record.

Soldier: ROBERT FRAZIER
Born: May 15, 1932, Black
Date of loss: November 7, 1952, Missing in Action in North Korea. His remains were never recovered

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 70families in Ohio that have not been located. There is one family from Dougfherty County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
Looking for information on Allen Ratliff died 1889 in Albany. The Obit states he was buried in Pine Bluff. I had the opportunity to visit Pine Bluff but did not find a marker. I was told Sumner Cemetary was originally Pine Bluff Cemetary. it would seem that Sumner would be too far from Albany in 1889 to transport a body.
Does anyone know if there is another Pine Bluff Cemetary in or around East Ablany/Acree area?
I feel sure Allen Ratliff would have had a marker due to the fact he owned a large plantation , merchantile, hotel and cotton warehouse
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks, Delane
I'm not related, hope the info benefits someone.

The two largest persons in southwest Georgia are dead. Warren Shiver, a prominent farmer of Worth county, died at his home near Acree. He was the largest of a large family and was known as the Worth county giant. He was six feet, seven inches in height, and of immense frame weighing nearly 300 pounds. He once killed a man with a blow from his fist. Mrs. J.L. Boyt (Boyl, Boyd?), wife of a prominent farmer of Dougherty county, is also dead. She was also very large in size and a member of the Baptist church.

In the 1860 and 1870 Census Amanda lives with her father James Tanner in Albany, Dougherty Co, GA. In 1870 here are two Amerson Children living in this home, Anna (3 yr) and James (3 mo).

In 1857 Ann Beck marries William H Tisdale.
In 1865 Mrs Ann Tisdale marries Daniel Amerson.
Both marriages are in Dougherty Co, GA.

I find no record of Daniel or Ann after the marriage. Is it possible that Daniel is the father of Anna and James Amerson?

Amanda Tanner shows up in Texas with these two children sometime after 1870 where James Amerson rears a family in Collingsworth County, TX.

Where is the connection from Tanner to Amerson in the period 1865 to 1870 in Dougherty County, GA ?

William H. Betts Murder Trial Circa 1870

I am looking for information about the murder trial of Lt. Col. William H. Betts of the 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment C.S.A. that I believe took place in Albany, Georgia about 1870. Betts was accused of murdering a Federal soldier, Edward N. Emerson, on November 4, 1867 in Dougherty County. Betts was not captured until September 1870 in Atlanta. Supposedly Betts was acquitted of the charge, but I do not know the specifics of the case. I am writing the history of the 13th Alabama Regiment and I would like to include this Reconstruction trial in my manuscipt. If anyone has knowledge of this case, or can direct me to it, I would be very thankful.

Rosa Adams Suicide

I'm conducting family research for a friend - her grandmother is Rosa Adams (born 1886-died 12/16/1932). Family lore has it Rosa committed suicide and was found in the kitchen by the gas stove, but this hasn't been verified and my friend wants to find out the real story of her grandmother. She has her death certificate and under "Cause" it says "Unknown." That probably was cryptic for suicide back then, but maybe not. I doubt if her obituary would say, but I'd love to have it. Wonder if we could obtain it from an Albany newspaper? Does anyone have any info on that?

Rosa married Daniel Shelton McLennan (11/14/1886, Westville, Florida-2/24/1959, Dougherty, Georgia) - they were married in Florala, Alabama in January of 1910, then moved to Albany Georgia to live and to raise their son, Edward Larkin McLennan.

If this family sounds familiar to anyone, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

Melissa

I cannot figure out what he was doing in Albany at that time. Does someone have access to newspapers written during this time period that would be kind enough to see if anything unusual occurred?

Henry and Molly probably would have been born between 1870 and 1875. The children were all born during the late 1890ies or early 1900s. Many of the children moved to Florida as adults.

I am looking for information on my mother's birth mother, Martha Ward Barker, born in the late 1800s. She married
? Barker. They had a daughter, Nancy, born in the 19teens. ? Barker died in the flu epidemic in 1917. When Martha gave birth to my mother, Jessie Louise Barker, born 01-31-18, in Dougherty County, GA, she gave her up for adoption to Joseph C. and Annie Hafer Whipple of Quitman, GA. A woman in Valdosta made the arrangements for the adoption. There is no record of the birth at the courthouse in Albany. Nancy may have attended Valdosta State College in the 1930s. Martha worked for the government in Washington, D.C. during WWII. Thank you for your help.

My name is LaKisha Bryant. I'm an African-American woman and I live in Georgia. So far, I think my family is going to cross several states including, GA, TN, KY, VA and the Carolinas. As far back as I have so far is Robert Cheeks (my
great-grandfather) born in 1872 (after the civil war) in Macon, GA. He was married to Patsy Marshall, born in 1898 from Richmond, VA. Her parents were Allen Marshall & Irene Sheppard.

They had eleven children: Annie CHeeks, Catherine Cheeks Coleman, Jesse Cheeks, Sr., Wilson Cheeks, Jimmy Cheeks, Robert CHeeks, Andrew CHeeks, Flora Cheeks Calloway, Henry Cheeks, Bill Cheeks, and Irene Cheeks Ross. That's all I have so far.

I know the name of Robert's father, but we're trying to figure out where the Cheeks name comes in. Robert's father was white and his mother was either black or mixed; we're thinking the latter. My grandfather and great-grandfather could have passed for white men. I'm thinking that most of it is going to trace to slavery and plantations and go from there. Any idea where I can find slave journals, etc.? Do you have knowledge of any of these people or could you give me some info that you may have? Where should I begin? Email me at LBRYANT@ISOA.NET
I found my great grandmother, Ginnet Towns residing in Doughtery County, Albany City on the 1880 Census. From her age and the fact that there is a Towns plantation there I am assuming she was a slave that was released which is why I can't find her on earlier records. However it occured to me that there has to have been slave cemetaries or at least "black only" cemetaries in this area that might give me clues about her. Does anyone know of any such cemetaries? I'd also appreciate information on the other cemetaries in the area also as I am hoping my grandfather might be there. Thank you...Theressa
