Surnames: LANIER, NEWTON, OGLESBY, TURNER
I am trying to clear up some conflicting information that exists about the wife of my ancestor, Phillip NEWTON (b ca 1780 in NC...later settled in the Cananoochi Township of Emanuel County. I do know that he married one of the daughters of Revolutionary Soldier Benjamin Lanier...that came to St. Matthew's Parrish from Duplin County, NC after the War of Independence.

When I first began my research, I was told by a long-time researcher that my gggg grandfather Phillip D. NEWTON married Benjamin's daughter Lucy LANIER. Then, are are two different accounts in the Hollingsworth boon, History of Screven County. The "F240 LANIER" entry that came from "the records of C.D. Holliongworth, Sr." states that Phillip NEWTON married Benjamin's daughter Elizabeth Lanier...not Lucy, who reportedly married a Thomas Wolf. Later in the same book, under family "F318 NEWTON" a liating submitted by Charlott A. Lambert mentions that "Phillip NEWTON, Jr. was the son of Phillip NEWTON born in NC about 1780, and his wife Ann Amy LANIER, daughter of Rev. Soldier Benjamin LANIER and his wife, Susannah Green.

So...will the real wife please stand up.

1)Lucy LANIER
2)Elizabeth LANIER
3)Ann Amy LANIER

My line is Phillip NEWTON,Sr., m. ?? LANIER
Bird Lanier NEWON m. Malissa OGLESBY
Phillip Dorsett NEWTON m. Lucinda TURNER
George Washington Newton m. Mary Ophelia KITCHINGS
George William NEWTON m. Shirley STAFFORD
(me) Thomas Duane NEWTON, m. Kristi LAMBERT

Any guidance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!
