Hi Phillip,
From what I can learn from my Thornton book, Reuben was a son of Thomas, one of three sisters (Sarah Elizabeth Thornton Montgomery, Ellender Thornton Millford, and Mary Eviline Thornton Monday) and four brothers, Freeland, Pinckney, Isaac, and Reuben who was born in Hall County, GA around 1822. Other than the 1850 census of Hall Co. GA, which listed him as 25 years of age. He appeared at the distribution of his father's estate on april 24, 1876, which was served by A.B. Nuckolls, at the residence of Z.T. Monday(Munday), Reuben's nephew, which was his "most notorious place of abode". On May 10,1876 he signed the settlement papers and dropped from our records after that.
Reuben's brother, Isaac, is my g-grandfather, Dozier is my Grandfather and Isaac is my Dad.
There are scads of Thornton's around here. I live about 90 miles south of Dallas. Hill County is about 60 miles NE of me. I live in Freestone county. Many Thorntons live in and around Freestone, Limestone, Anderson counties, which are joined together. There are also clusters around Corpus Christi, and up in the Panhandle and down through West Texas(Abiline, Odessa, etc.)
I will continue to read and see if it mentions about Reuben's making a trip to TX. We seemed to have come from VA, down through the Carolinas, GA and across the south to TX. I've met one family in Farmington NM, who could establish a connection.
This is probably more than you wanted to know about us, but maybe it will help. If I run up on anything else I will try to get it to you.
Thanks for your reply. DT
