I finally scanned the "letters home" written by my gggrandfather Lt. Josiah Blair Patterson ( 1815-1864), and Donna Parrish has kindly posted them under the "Diaries and Letters" link on the Forsyth County site. Go to :
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaforsyt/records/diariesetc.html

There are lots of Forsyth County names mentioned, both soldiers in the 14th Ga Vol Infantry Regmt and citizens who stayed at home. One person who particularly intrigues me is a "Lt. David "(that was his surname). Would be interested in finding out who he was.
If you have an ancestor who lived in the Cumming area during the War, or are just interested in a particular surname, you can search the letters by using the "edit"/ "find" function. I will add a surname index as soon as I can figure out how to do it.
