Hello Earl,

I have some family history about the Phinazees (phinisee) from Cork Ireland and would be glad to share what I have with you and maybe you could share the same with me.
Nice meeting you.

I am a descendant of the Phinazee familly and have no clue as to where our name originates. Can you please give me some insight on our lineage? Also I have seen the name spelled Fennessey/Fennessy etc.

Surnames: Fennessy
There's a book called "Fennessy of the County Tipperary" by Richard Fennessy that says all the Fennessys come from an area that spreads outward from the Cashel area of Tipperary, Ireland.

John Phinazee seems to be the progenitor of most of the GA Phinazees. He came to the US at age 10 from York Ireland.
His daughter Mary "Polly" married Griffith Reed and another daughter married Ben Reed. He was involved inthe Revolutionary War and you can find information on him in DAR records. They are available at GA Archives in Morrow GA

Would you mind filling me in?

Our last name is spelled Phinisee. But I think it's also been spelled Phinazee and Fennessey and Finnessey. To be perfectly honest I'm confused.

Surnames: Phinazee, Reed
You may be aware already, but this same John Phinazee (father of Molly who married a Reed) was honored last December by the Sons of the American Revolution. They placed a bronze marker on his grave near Griffin, GA and held a ceremony. I did not go, but a cousin sent me photos if you're interested. Please email me at tariail@yahoo.com. -Teresa

Hello,

My fathers name was Clevy Phinsee born in 1940 his fathers name was Cleveland Phinsee born in 1910 and it appears that there was another Cleveland Phinisee born in 1889. We don't spell our name today with an "I" after the N and before the S, However we have always pronouced our name as though it should have an I.

The thing that makes believe that Cleveland Phinisee is in my bloodline goes back to my father Clevy Phinsee once telling me that he named me after one of his uncles. After researching Cleveland Phinisee it appears that he had a brother name Sam Phinisee. My name is Sam Phinsee and interestingly enough my sons is named Clevy Phinsee after my Father and Grandfather.
