There is a C in the 1880 census. I have had no proof of the William D connection either. There is a William D, 75, and a William, 71, in Savannah River Regiment District, Abbeville, SC 1850 census. Obediah Campbell is there also, age 43 and had 2 slaves listed on the slave register.
Any new findings?

I have done birth searches in the Gordon Probate office but doubt that their records start that early - how do you know he was born in Gordon - I don't see any Posey(s) in the 1900 Gordon census. Martha

Martha, I have checked with Findagrave, and there is a memorial for him there. It says he is buried in Fain Cemetery in Gordon County. I wish I lived closer so I could go out and take a picture of the stone. Is there any way I could search Georgia births for 1903-1905? That is about the time Ollie Posey was born.

Hello Joan,
In one of your previous posts, you talked about Fain Cemetery in Gordon County, and a Mrs. A.T. Posey who published a thank you note to all who sent flowers for her son, Ollie's funeral. Ollie Posey married my great grandmother, Lillie Robinson in 1928 in Kentucky, and Ollie passed away on their wedding night. That would have been December 29, 1928. I have been trying to find out as much as I can about him, and their marriage. I was wondering if you would by any chance have access to an obituary or some type of information regarding his death. I know that my great grandmother accompanied his body by train back to Georgia and stayed with his family until his funeral. She was only sixteen at the time, and had never met any of his family before. I am really hoping there was an obituary published in the newspaper that would have more information in it. Thank you very much for your time, and I would love to hear back from you!!

Sincerely,
Kyle Rambo

You didn't say how much you know and this is not my line, but Sarah A. Frix b. 1840 GA is in the 1870 Gordon census with parents Joel & Martha b. 1846 GA. Findagrave Memorial #5255227 shows Peter Franklin Groover 1 Dec. 1845-3 May 1921 m. Sarah A. Fricks 24 Dec. 1871 Sugar Valley, Gordon Co., burial Jefferson Co. AL. Memorial #5255228 in same cemetery shows Sarah A. Fricks Groover no dates but yet another #66231966 shows Sallie Groover 4 Mar. 1847 - 21 June 1925. AL Deaths shows P.F.'s father as Milton. Hope this helps. Martha

He is not listed as being buried there on Find A Grave (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=36...). You might order a copy of his military file from The National Archives. He was in Company F, 4th Regiment, Georgia Infantry according to this web site-- http://www.nps.gov/civilwar/soldiers-and-sailors-database.ht...

Most of the original confederate markers only show name, rank, and unit.

I went to the Calhoun Library today and searched for this obituary. I searched all records available & obit boxes and found nothing.I looked for Pearson & Brown. I went through the Calhoun Times for the entire month of July 2008 and didn't find any thing. Could she have possibly lived in Murray County? I'm sorry I couldn't help.

I now know for sure that Daniel Johnson of Gordon County was the son of Uzal Johnson of Lyme, CT, but I am still looking for info on him. He was a Methodist minister and died in Resaca 7 Mar. 1886. His second wife Eliza Jane Daniel died 22 Feb. 1884 and is buried with Daniel in Dorsett-Norrall Cemetery in Resaca. Besides the chldren listed in my earlier posting, Daniel had chldren Mary, b. ca. 1831, and David, b. 1833, both born in S. C. to a first wife who d. before 1848 when Daniel married Eliza Jane in Rutherford Co., NC. I am particularly interested in would like to know who his first wife was and also when he moved to SC, where his churches were, and why he moved south. He was living in Cheraw, SC, in 1842.

My husband is a descendant of Obediah C. Campbell. I didn't have the "C" as Cann.Is there family history supporting this? William wighttman Campbell was married to Semmeye Brown Gannaway, 24 Nov 1831-31 Mar 1877, buried in Wesley Chapel, Sonoraville, Gordon, GA. His second wife was Louisa Kinman m. 10 Sep 1877.
Some family trees are trying to connect Obediah Cann Campbell to a father- William D. Campbell, but I cannot find any proof?

Hi Larry,

Judging from the number of Walker families who lived in Floyd Co., Ga., you have a big job on your hands. I am
thinking that some of the people from Floyd Co. who were
later found in Chatooga Co. and Gordon Co., actually never moved, or at least, not very far.

Good luck in developing your DNA results.

Thanks,
Nancy

Hey Nancy, we have the results back and have been grouped and have alot of information and have e-mailed some of them but have not recieved anything solid yet.My cousin still thinks that some of our Walkers at least lived or were born there in Gordon Co but we haven't been able to track anything down yet. He has hired a proffessional for a few hours to try to help us find something further back on William Jefferson Walker.
Thanks Larry

Hi Nancy, I couldn't remember whether I had e-mailed you or not about the Trouts in Bush Arbor abd Pisgah cemetaries. I did get over and walked through both of them and found a lot of Walker's and made pics of them but I did not find any Trout names at either place. Sorry for not getting back sooner I have been getting over rotator cuff surgery.
Larry

I believe that Chesley operated the store at Whittles Depot which Nancy'e grandfather Peyton W. Barbour later operated in the 1930s. I was in the old store several years ago and I beleive it is still there.

I may have more data on Mitchell McCord Dawson after this meeting. I am like you in that it is obvious Mitchell died between 1865-1869 but I know nothing more.
Are you a descendant of Mitchell? If so, how do you fit in?
