YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Services will be Friday Jan. 7, 2011 at noon with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Olive Fire Baptized Holiness Church, 124 W. Marion Avenue, for Mrs. Hattie Coney, 92, who departed this life on Monday Jan. 3, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs Coney was born March 18, 1918, in Sparta, Georgia, the daughter of Ulysses and Mozella Rhodes Warren.
Coming to Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) as a child, she resided in the area for over 80 years.
Mrs. Coney was married to the late Marshall B. Coney, Sr. She was a retired housekeeper, and a faithful and loyal member of the Mt. Olive Fire Baptized Holiness Church, participating in the following boards and activities deaconess and trustee boards, superintendent of Sunday school for over 20 years, chairman of finance and anniversary committees, kitchen committee, secretary of Northeast Ohio annual Conventions, as well as a licensed local minister who attended the majority of the church’s conventions and annual meetings.
Mrs. Coney leaves to cherish in her memory and continue her legacy her children, Marshall B. (Debra) Coney, Jr. of Youngstown, Doris Pegues of San Pedro, Calif., Raymond (Wanda) Coney of Durham, N.C., Cynthia (Keith) Gaines of Austintown, Ohio; sisters, Inez Washington of Youngstown and Ollie (Richard) Mcclain of Rocky Point, N.Y.; two sister in laws, Marjorie Warren and Bertha Coney Dickens of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses and Mozella Rhodes Warren; husband, Marshall B. Coney, Sr.; brothers, James, Homer and Elijah Warren; sisters, Mattie Davis and Louise Coney.
