I found the following in the History of Lee County, Georgia. "In the fall of 1955 all of the Black schools in Lee County were consolidated into one, Lee County Training School. Pupils throughout the county were bused to school. The faculty consisted of forty people, including a non-teaching principal, Mr. Johnny Jones, an assistant principal, the late Mr. M. L. Solomon and a visiting teacher, Ms. Elsie Nesbit. The late Mr. H. T. Kearse was the superintendent. Grades taught were one through eleven. The first twelfth grade class graduated in 1960.
During the existence of the school, there were two superintendents, the late Mr. H. T. Kearse and Dr. Robert A. Clay; four principals Mr. Johnny J. Jones, the late Mr. M. L. Solomon, Mr. James Mixon and Mr. Moses Lightfoot; two visiting teachers Ms. Elsie Nesbit and Mrs. Jane McRee; a supervisor, Mrs. Elmyra George and a curriculum director, Dr. Mary Frances McNeil. In 1970, all schools in the county were integrated. At that time the name Lee County Training School was changed to Lee County Upper Elementary."
I hope this helps you. - Dawn Stocks French
