Mary Anne Bunkley is my 3rd great grandmother too-M- Thomas Sumner Mell. My line is through William Benjamin Mell (1816-1871)

I found this: 1. JOHN3 BUNKLEY (JOHN2, ?1) was born Bef. 1775 in poss. Virginia, and died Aft. 1820 in possible father of Brittain who married mary driggors. He married (1) MARY ANN WHITEJuly 13, 1789 in Liberty county, Georgia. She was born Abt. 1770 in Georgia, and died Bef. 1807 in Liberty county, Georgia. These two Bunkley boys do not seem to show up in my later searches. I have often wondered if the male 10-16 was Britton J. Bunkley who married Mary Ann Driggers in 1832 in Bulloch county. I have been unable to positively place Britton J. with the Brittain Bunkley and Mary Clubb descendants. As a son of John Bunkley would seem to make more sense and since John and Britton were probably brothers or father and son, for John to name his son Brittain would seem to indicate a familial connection.
For whatever reason, Brittain J left Bulloch county and moved to Camden. Maybe to be near relatives
NOTE: I need to get this again, but I remember seeing in the Spanish Land Grant books that a John Bunkley was "deposed??" in 1828 in the confirmation of a land grant for someone else.
MISC: Spanish Land Grants in Florida Vol 1: Unconfirmed Claims: Book D, Unc D 27: 1 [E] Extract from memorial of William Drayton: "And another grand . . . of May 22 1772, by Lieutenant Governor Moultrie, of 300 acres on the north side of Northwest Creek running into the Little Matanzas River, on the north of land granted to Jno. Bunkley the original plat of survey being mislaid . . .
NOTE: I am not sure as of yet if John Bunkley is the son of Brittain Bunkley and ? wife in the 1783 Florida census or a brother of Brittan Bunkley. A John Bunkley is listed in the Loyalists in East Florida books but not listed in the 1783 East Florida Census as Brittain is listed in the Loyalist book and the 1783 census. In the census a Cathalina (nee ?), Bunkley Allen is listed with her current husband Thomas Allen of Scotland as being the wife of John Bunkley/Tunkley and that he left her 50 acres of land on the Island 1 mile from Ft. Matanzas and another 250 acres 7 miles to the south of mentioned island, all with documents of title. (One reference says she was left this by will and another states that it is her sworn testimony). This would seem to indicate that John Bunkley as mentioned in the Loyalists books was married to a Catherine (Cathalina (Spanish version), as all names were written in Spanish) and died before 1784 when Cathalina remarried to Thomas Allen. This John and Cathalina were probably the parents of Brittain, Cecilia and maybe this John. In the Unconfirmed Spanish Land Grants in Florida books there is a reference of a William Drayton granted land on the "North of land granted to John Bunkley", this grant to Drayton was in 1772". There has been no signs of Brittain's 1st family when he comes to Georgia. He marries Priscilla Mathis in 1786 and Mary Clubb in 1788. Cecilia marries William Clubb around 1788 or so. Younger John marries Mary Ann White in 1789 and later Mrs. Ann Farrows in 1807. There is a Jeremiah Bunkley who shows up in Glynn county 1794 tax polls and is never seen again. Is he one of the missing children of John and Cathalina or Brittain and ? wife. This is a web that will take some time to figure out if it is even possible.

July 2, 2006, I have moved Britton J. Bunkley as a son of Brittain R. Bunkley and an ? woman to John Bunkley and Ann (?) Farrows. This seems to be more likely. John Bunkley married the widow Ann Farrows on December 22, 1807, it is possible that Brittain J. was the last child born to Mary Ann White. Based on Britton's ages in the 1850-1870 census it seems that he was born between January and July 1807
