It seems to be commonly assumed that there's a typo on the marriage record for Samantha Hand and Albert E. Wells. The groom is taken as Elbert English Wells. I'd like some substantiation for this. In the 1860 census an Elbert Wells was on the adjoining record, but 7 years younger than Samantha. It's indicated on findagrave that he was a nephew that came to live with his uncle / aunt. On the 1870 census Samantha was back at home with her parents and with a child. On subsequent census reports she's listed as widowed. Elbert did marry and have 11-13 children. His marriage was in the 1870's. Anyone have something firm on these events?
