Need help with Toms buried at Thomson city cemetery

Classification: Query
Surnames: Toms
In 2003, after more than a 30-year search, my sister and I visited Thomson, GA, and what we believe is the grave of our Civil War grandfather, T. J. Toms from Jackson Parish, LA. On the grave marker, his name is given as T.W. Toms of Waco Parish, LA. He died in 1864 and is buried in the Thomson City Cemetery.
We learned that the markers for the five Civil War soldiers buried there in a row were placed by some local organization. Since there is not now nor ever has been a "Waco Parish, LA," we believe that the script of the original death record was misread and that both the "W" in his name and the "W" in Waco should have been "J." We are trying to locate the record that was used to order his tombstone, if it exists, so that we might verify whether or not this is indeed our grandfather.
If anyone has any information, please contact me at Thank you. Mary Blood
