Classification: Query
Surnames: Bagwell, Badgwell
My GGGF Canada Bagwell, a widower, lived in Murray County with his nine children by his first wife in 1870 according to the census of that year. In the early 1870's he married again, and had four more children by his second wife. He was living in Bell County Texas in 1880 according to that year's census. He had apparently just moved there, because the youngest child was a year old and was born in Georgia. Three of the boys by his first wife changed their name to Badgwell. An Ancestry.com correspondent from Texas said that there was a rumor that the three had been involved in a murder in Georgia and had fled to Texas and changed their names because of it. He wanted to know if I knew anything about it, and I don't. Can anyone in Murray County enlighten me on it?
