Mr. Johnny L. Williams, of Springdale, Ohio, former band director at Oconee High School, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012.
Mr. Williams was at Oconee High School from 1966 until it closed in June 1970.
He was the first band director at Dublin High School when the schools racially integrated in the 1970-1971 school year. The Dublin High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Williams, was one of the most outstanding organizations in the new school. "The traditional pride of Dublin echoed through the mind of each individual member as he strived to bring honor to his school and community. Dublin High School Band participated in football games, pep rallies, parades, and many concerts" as quoted from the school's first yearbook "The Reflector" in 1971.
Mr. Williams is the cousin of Mrs. Doris Hughes and of Mr. Charles Manning, both of Dublin, Georgia.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 in at St. Matthias the Apostle, 1050 W. Kemper Road, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Interment followed at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery
