My ancestor's sister, Sarah M. HEAD (b. ca 1816 in GA, probably Jasper Co.) appears in the 1850 census of Pike Co., GA (where her father Edmond HEAD lived in 1840).
This household seems to indicate that Sarah was first married to a WARD, by whom she had a daughter, Mary J. WARD (born ca 1836). By 1850, Sarah had apparently married William H. McLENDON (b. ca 1818 GA) and had (twin?)daughters by him: Sarah M. McLENDON and Anis / Alice McLENDON (born ca 1845).
Sarah seems to have died between 1850 and 1865, when her father died in Coffee Co., AL. Her children Mary J. WARD, Sarah M. McLENDON, and Anis (or Alice) McLENDON are identified in Edmond's estate settlement as residents of Pike Co., GA.
On page 114 of the 1840 Pike Co., GA census appear the households of Wyatt WARD (b. 1790-1800), Jacob McLENDON (b. 1790-1800) and Edmond HEAD. Could Wyatt WARD and Jacob McLENDON be the fathers-in-law of Sarah M. HEAD, Edmond's daughter?
Does anyone have any information about what happened to Sarah's daughters, Mary J. WARD, Sarah M. McLENDON, and/or Anis/Alice McLENDON?
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!
Gratefully--
Ron Head (Montgomery, AL)
