Of course, though I should tell you I know virtually nothing about Crooked Creek except that Hezekiah and Elizabeth (my ggreats)are buried there and that about five or six decades later my grandfather was a member there. He was Edgar Howard Jones and the grandson of Hezekiah.
My family did not know of Hezekiah and Elizabeth until a few years ago. My mother had no idea her great grandparents were buried there.
Are you going into DAR through the Jones?
These photos were in my mother's possession and have some connection to her grandparents who were from Morgan and Putnam Counties. Her grandparents were Sarah C Pennington and Samuel D Prince. The pictures are most likely of people in Eatonton.
Sorry, I found only one Owen (Owens?), the 3rd wife of a Whitley. She had 3 children (he already had about 5) all born in the 1920's, most likely in Texas. I don't have her dates or her ancestry. Her connection to Wright was a couple of generations prior, to my ancestor's twin brother William Taylor Wright. I see no connection to your guys, not yet anyway.

Jones' in Putnam Co. Ga

Greetings-

I am looking for info on Jones' in Putnam -- we have my great-great grandfather David Lewis Jones traced back to the 1850 census in Putnam - he was then a child - and his mother ANN (Farley we are confident) JONES was the head of the family (approx 40 years old) - the whole family moved to Harris County, GA before the next census to a piece of property a Farley family member deeded her. We believe David Lewis Jones' father to be named JAMES based on naming patterns in the latter family. David Lewis Jones was well documented in later life - however no paperwork inquires about parents except for his death certificate and it states "Don't Know" - and we are not able to pull death certificates for any of his brothers or sisters to see if they list a mother or father. Any help would be appreciated -- without this - we are stuck going back any further. We assume that David's unknown father probably had brothers in Putnam -- and we have no idea about what may have happened to his father. THERE is a Timothy Jones and family who lived next to ANN FARLEY JONES on the 1850 - but we are unsure if they are related - there was no pattern of them moving or another future connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bob

I have been trying to figure out if the families were originally from VA. The furthest I have gotten is to my ggrandparents Mattie Roberta Griggs and her husband Jim/James Evans. I know that one of Roberta's parents was a Clements. Like most people of color, I have to get my source from the slave holder. I have been researching Wesley Griggs and now I am interested in James W. Farley. From what I have researched so far, both men were slave holders and also served in the Revoluntionary War. According to docs, James W. Farley was originally from VA. He is also an Evans by blood. Is this a clue that my ancestors were from VA as well? I can't seem to get past my ggrandfather. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could he(Isham) have been a son of Nathaniel??

Also, Nathaniel's son, Lt.
I am looking for the parents of Frances H (Harriet?) McClendon. She married John C Aiken in Putnam Co, GA in 1846. That marriage license was filed in Jasper Co. GA. She may be the mother of M. Emeline Aiken-Campbell and Roxie Ann Aiken-Chaffin.

According to the 1880 Jasper Co census, she was born around 1819 in Georgia (possibly SC). She was living with her daughter Emeline and Son-in-law William C Campbell at that time.

I am assuming that Frances was a family name but can make no connection to any other Frances McClendon in Putnam County Georgia.

Brad,

My gg grandfather, Asa Wright, was son of Johnson and Frances Wright; born Sept 28, 1795 in Warren County, Georgia. His older brother Samuel "evidently" had a son also named Asa Wright; that Asa Wright was born about 1781 in North Carolina and "lived in Butler County, Alabama until about 1844, and who is sometimes confused with the earlier Baptist preacher who lived there." I'm quoting Mrs. Halliburton, p. 13; I think she means that North Carolina Asa is sometimes confused with "my" Asa. She surmises that they were related, maybe cousins, but in other places in the narrative speaks as though this was certainly Johnson's nephew, Asa's cousin.

The older Asa Wright (b.1781 N.C.) , son of Samuel Jr., must have had a son Asa, since he's being referred to as "Asa Wright Sr." To further confuse us, Asa Sr.'s wife was also Elizabeth! And besides all this, Samuel Jr. and Johnson may have had a brother Asa, b. 1757 in Virginia, (my note says "or 1737") who served in the American Revolution along with eldest brother Robert Henry Wright(b. ca 1739; if "Asa" was Robert's brother and b. 1737 that would make him the eldest. The Blue Book is full of contradictory statements. And typos.

In 1824 Johnson/Frances and Asa/Elizabeth Wright joined the Pigeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Butler County, Alabama and in 1830 Asa left that church, and is found in the Lowndes County census. "A. Wright" is a member of Bethany Baptist in Lowndes county (church minutes, 1832) and "Rev. A. Wright" performed a wedding there on Jan 31, 1832.

QUOTE from the Halliburton book I call the Blue Wright Book: "On July 6, 1833 the records show that Asa and Elizabeth Wright were organizing members of Old Bethany Baptist of Sumter County Alabama." END QUOTE.

Marriage records of Sumter County, Alabama show that "A. Wright" performed a wedding on Nov. 13, 1833. He attended the Baptist State Convention on Nov. 8, 1834. Nov 24, 1834, he Quote: "entered three tracts of land of 80.05 acres each in Sumter County, Alabama". end quote. He got more Sumter Co. land, 40.223 acres in May 1836.

But he moved to Texas via Mississippi in 1837, about the time his parents died. (I don't have exact dates for Johnson and Frances either birth or death.) In Oct 1837 he sold land, 160 acres to each of two men Keaton and Pharis.
Meanwhile Johnson & Frances, Samuel and Sarah are still back in Butler County, associated with Moriah Baptist in Jan 1833 and Zion Baptist in July 1835.

It may be that Bethany, "Old Bethany", changed its name to Siloam later.

Perhaps your research will line up with this which I've copied from the Blue Wright Book.

I don't have a maiden name for Frances, Asa's mother.

Happy hunting.
Paulette, is your Asa Wright the same Rev. Asa Wright who was a pastor of the Siloam Baptist Church of Sumter Co., AL, during the very early 1830's? I'm trying to update our church history for Siloam, and any help you could offer would be fantastic!
Thanks!--Brad Campbell

Thomas Keeling Smith - Putnam County, 1803-1827

Thomas Keeling Smith is like the invisible man! He shows up on some census reports - and is the list of "fortunate drawers" for the Georgia Land Lottery of 1805, but not much else!

He did not serve in the Revolutionary War and since so many of the census and other records were lost around the time he lived in Putnam Co, it's difficult to find information. He was buried on private property and apparently left no will.

The only clue I have about his life in Putnam County was "He moved to Putnam County and became part of the mercantile trade." from his son, my gggrandfather.

He was born in North Carolina in 1753, the family moved to the Old 96 District in South Carolina around 1765, escaped a Cherokee/Tory massacre on July 1, 1776 that killed much of his family, including his father, Aaron Smith, a captain of militia. He married Eleanor McKinney in 1777.

In Georgia, he lived in Capt John White's District in 1820 and died in Eatonton in 1827.

I am looking for any specific information about him or information as to where to find some kind of plat map or list of the location of properties from the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. Also - any information as to businesses in the Eatonton area during that time period.

Thanks for any help -- sorry to be so long-winded!
