Thanks for the update on the the two Allens and Easters. My name is Esther M. Turpin Houston and the coincidence is so weird as I never knew my Turpin grandparents and their kin.
I have been told that Thomas D. was called Denny and Ben was called Bennie. Some even thought they were twins, but I cannot verify that.
Will get back to you all when I look more carefully at the info that I have.
Thanks again,
Esther

Keith, you are correct. My Allen T. Turpin was born around 1850, not 1827. He married an Esther M. (she may be Easter Melvino Hunicutt, but I have no proof, just speculation.) Easter Hunicutt's father was named Meredith Manson Hunicutt, and Allen T. and Esther named one of their sons William Manson Turpin.

Indeed, THOMAS DENNARD TURPIN'S parent's were Allen T.(born 1850, died after 1900) and Easter M. Turpin (born 1864, died after 1910), NOT Allen Pearson and Malinda Easter Green. Allen T.'s parents were William A. Turpin and Genetta "Jane" Wilbanks.

Thomas Dennard can be found in the 1900 Rabun County Census living with his parents and 5 siblings: William, Celia, Bennie, John Calvin (Johnny), and Jenovia (Sarah).

I can understand why some could get this couple (Allen P. and Easter) mixed up with the other Turpin couple since the names are similar, but the birth dates are clearly far enough apart to make a distinction.

Somewhere we have a glitch as our information is different.
I have Allen Pearson T. Tuprin 1827-1904 [son of Elias Turpin 1801-ca 1850 married Malinda Easter Green 1836-1911 [daughter of David Green 1801-1862 and Frances 'Fanny' Wall 1810-1891]. They had 10 children, Thomas Dennard Turpin is not among them. Allen and Malinda were married 1855. All of this was in Rabun Co. GA.
While most of this information comes from "Turpin Footprints" not all of it does and the authors of "Turpin Footprints" cite a number of sources including cemetery, census and county records.
Unfortunately I don't have Thomas Dennard Turpin in my database. There are a number of Thomas' but none are even close.
While I feel confident that this information is correct, it is very possible that the list of children I have is not complete, and that Thomas Dennard is their son.

Hi Keith,

Could you check to see if you have information on Allen T. Turpin (b.1850) and Ester M. (b. about 1863) from Rabun, GA. They had 12 children, one of them being Thomas Dennard Turpin. I specially would like to know Ester's parent's names if you have them, or even just her maiden name. Thank you for your help !

Rhonda

Clayton in Rabun County vs. Clayton County, GA

Beware of potential confusion between Clayton County, and the town of Clayton in Rabun county, approximately 100 miles to the Northeast. I have relatives in both locations and thus became sensitive to this issue. When you add a census record to your tree from Clayton County, the location will be added as "Clayton, Georgia, United States". If you then click on that place name in your person's overview, Ancestry will erroneously show you a map of Clayton over in Rabun County. I see massive confusion in people's trees about this. I see records and people that I know belong in Clayton County attributed to Rabun County and vice versa.

Hi David sorry for the delay.I have done a little research and found a William Turpen married to a Rosa M. Fitz in the Missouri Marriage Records 1805-2002 in the Nodaway area. I also found a William Turpen married to a Rosa Turpin and his father was listed as William Turpen in the Missouri Death Records 1834-1910 in Nodaway. Did your Turpens ever live in Missoui? I can't find these Turpens connected with ours, but they still maybe. We are thinking the reunion might be held in the fall maybe October in Rabun County, Georgia. I wish this would coincide with your trip. If you get to Georgia send us a email and we will see what might be happening then.

Do you have any more information on this? I am also interested in the possible Indian connection if you have something new . I am new to genealogy and don't always know how to research properly. There were Wilbanks graves there at Joy as well as MCrackins which were in the family tree for Nancy. My daughter took pictures of the grave stones. I haven't seen them yet.
There are a good number of smiths in the index, but no James Calab, William Raleigh or Cordealia. There is a William D., William L., and William Taylor Smith listed but no William R or William without an initial. Nothing close to your James or Cordealia. (There is a Caledonia Smith, but doubt that is what you are looking for..spelling is too far off.)

If you want to look thru the Smith names, I can scan the Smith index and send it to you via email.
Hurray! Someone at last who knows them personally. I barely remember Mr. Kramer and don't remember my great-grandmother at all. Thanks so much for getting in touch with me. I'll be sending you an email.

Betty Law Morgan

My paternal grandfather is John W.Wilbanks. He and his wife Victoria had 10 children. My father was Barnie H. His older sister was Nancy Mary. I didn't know much about her history but I do remember going to her funeral when I was about 15. Mr. Kramer cried so pitifully as if his heart was broken. John's wife, Victoria was the daughter of John H. and Nancy C. Godfrey McCracken. I have more information there. My name is V. Ann Wilbanks Floyd. I live in Greenwood, S.C. but I grew up in Clemson where my grandparents are buried. annie408@century.net

I just checked the 1900 federal census and found James, Mary E., and their children (Roda J., Sarah E., George E., Hattie M., John A., and Joseph A.) living in Flatts Township, Macon County, North Carolina (near modern-day Scaly Mtn.).

Information recorded for this family includes the number of years James and Mary E. were married, 13, putting their marriage around 1887. It's possible this couple married in Macon County. If so, then check James E. Wooley's _Macon County, North Carolina Marriages, 1829 - 1939_, and if you find an entry, visit the Record of Deeds office at the Macon County courthouse in Franklin and see if there's a marriage license. Hope that there is, because it could tell you not only Mary E.'s maiden name, but also the names of her parents.

If you do not find a marriage record for James and Mary E. in Macon County, check both Rabun County and Oconee County, South Carolina (because of the family's close proximity to both locales). For the latter, you will most likely need to use newspapers to find a record of marriage, if one was published, as South Carolina did not require the registration of marriages until the early 20th century.

Good luck with your research. Let us know how it turns out!

Dawn Watson
Digging in the Roots: A Genealogical Odyssey
http://genealogical.wordpress.com/
