I am looking for information on James Lacey, my great-great grandfather. I would appreciate any info available on his ancestors and/or descendants.
James Lacey, born SC 1800, son of William Lacy. James had one sister Elizabeth, two brothers Jonathan and William. This family is from the Williamsburg County, SC and Charleston County, SC areas. James Lacey's bible record states he migrated from Charleston County, SC.
James Lacey migrated to WILCOX COUNTY, GA, stopping along the way at Briar Creek near Augusta for a year or so, moving on to Hawkinsville in Pulaski County for another year or so. He then moved to Wilcox County in 1844 and settled about
3 1/2 miles north of Rochelle on HWY 112. He was a farmer and wheelwright by occupation. The area he settled soon became known as Lacey's District. He had a school built across from his home for his children and later another school was built known as Lacey's School. THe Hawkinsville Florida Southern Railroad branched off to Rochelle through his property and the station was known as Lacey's Station. James Lacey brought with him his first wife, Ruth Hicks Lacey, and their seven children from SC:

Ruth Hicks Lacey d. 1-23-1853. It is not known where she was buried.
James Lacey's 2nd m. to Winnie Barton Lacey b. 1827, bore him 10 children:

(2)James Rasmas Lacey b. 11-30-1855, m. 1st Mollisa Ball, m. 2nd Nancy Gordon.

(4)Henry Lacey b. 9-12-1859, m. Nancy Davis.
(5)Gadson Lacey b. 4-1-1861, m. Nancy Walker.
(6)Martha Lacey b. 7-19-1862, m. Leonard Dozier.
(7)Patsy Lacey b. 2-28-1865, m. Wade Ball.
(8)Winey Maranda Lacey b. 5-20-1866, m. Dave Mixon.
(9)Seaborn Lacey b. 2-25-1868, 1st m. Emma Rhodes, 2nd m. Minnie J. Henderson Martin.
(10)Rosetta Lacey b. 8-15-1870, m. Pete A. Coleman.
James Lacey d. 1-23-1882 and was buried under a hickory tree on his land in 12th District, land lot No. 79. However, in April of 1936 a tornado hit that area and the tree was blown down. The owner was not aware of the grave and the site is now in cultivation. Winnie Barton Lacey d. 4-29-1918 and was buried in the Christian Hill Baptist Church Cem.
I found most of this information in a copy of an article written by Robert Lacey, Jr. (Publication title is unknown.)
Any info or leads on any part of this family's ancestors and/or descendants would be greatly appreciated.
