I am a descendant of Malachi Butler but I can't seem to find anything on him either. I do know that Amanda Butler Stuckey is buried at Pleasant Plains Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, along with Allison Malachi Butler (1845-1907). If I find anything I'll let you know.

John T. stated in his civil war pen. app. that he was born in Wilkinson county in 1828. He moved to Ware county (sometimes Clinch county because of slight boundary changes or enumerator error.) He enlisted at Waynesboro which is right up the road from Ware and was living in Millwood, Ware county at the time he filed his pen. app. Thank you for your interest.

Hugh Morgan

There is no listing for the person you are searching for in Wilkinson Co. at Ramah cemetery. There is a listing for this same person on the Ga. Archives website under the death certificates category. He died in Wayne Co. Ga. Ramah is listed as the cemetery of his burial. When looking at the Wayne Co. Genweb website there is no Ramah Cemetery listed. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but the Genweb sites are pretty accurate.

Mike

My gr-gr-grand father John T. Morgan,CSA, was born in Wilkinson County in 1828 according to his civil war pension application. The 1840 Wilkinson census lists 4 Morgans; Edward A.,James,Jas, and Thos Morgan one of which is likely to be the father of John T. Edward A. and Jas, have a males whose ages match and Thos has one male with a close enough match.

I suspect that John T. married Elizabeth ? whom I suspect is the daughter of Hiram Parker, Twiggs 1840 census.

Seeking information linking John T. to his father a Morgan of Wilkinson and the Hiram Parkers of Twigg. I hit a brickwall on John T.

Hugh Morgan

Where are Edward Jones Tarpley (1816-1866), his wife Ann McRaney Tarpley (1822-1897) and her parents Norman McRaeny (1790-) Catherine McRaney (1790-) buried? When did the older McRaneys die? Tarpley willed his 60 acre farm near Toomsboro to Ann - are they all buried in a family plot there? I cannot find them in the excellent online cemetery listings for Wilkinson County.

Norman McRaeny went a long way - he was born on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. He was a surveyor, and teacher in Irwinton.
Thank you.

Elder David Smith (13 May 1794-- 12 July 1883) had a plantation in this area. He died 12 July 1883 and a Great-grandson of his named Robert Smith stated he was buried there. This is his obituary which I found in Historical Newspapers. (Macon, Ga.) I quote: Union and Recorder, Milledgeville., Georgia, 24 July 1883., Front page last column on right, Wilkinson, From the Southerner, Davy Smith, age 90 years, oldest man in county, died 12 July.
This obituary does not state where or when he was buried. Elder David Smith is remembered as a founding Elder of the Cool Spring Church Of Christ (now Primitive Baptist). I have attached a picture Of Elder David Smith sent to me by his great grandson Robert Smith.

Hello. I am doing some research along this line for a friend of mine. I expect you already knew that the sister of Amelia Mackey (who married Robert Etheredge, Jr.) was Hopy Mackey, who married Meret Etheredge, Robert's brother. Robert and Amelia name one of their daughters Hopy Mackey. Your etymology of "Hopy" as Creek is helpful and tantalizing. Thank you.

Haven't posted here in a long time and I noticed some new people so I thought I would try again. Also some of my Evans moved into Bibb County around the 1890's and later into Jones County.
ESPECIALLY interested in the family of David and Obediah Evans on the 1850 and 1860 census. Rufus Evans was my ggrandfather. I am probably related to every EVANS in Twiggs County and Jones County.

I understand that he was married several times, so I am not sure if Patsy Sikes was Martha's mother. (I've seen somewhere that he had as many as seven wives but I suspect some of the marriages were his son's and not his).

I'd be happy to share the small amount of information that I have about the aforementioned people.

Johns in Wilkinson Co. GA early 1900

I am posting here, hoping anyone could help me find some information.
I have been doing some research for my husband's Johns side of the family.
His grandfather was born in Wilkinson Co., along with his brother and sister. I have pieced together some of the information but most of it is assumption, piecing information together from different sources.
This is what I've found and pieced together... if this is incorrect please let me know. Thank you

I am almost positive that Archie T. Johns, and Ophelia are my husband's great grandparents, I just haven't found anything specific.

Information regarding Archie T. Johns, born about 1869.
Parents were Phoebe S. Johns, and William L. Johns.
I have found him on the 1900 US Census residing in Wilkinson Co. with his parents and siblings.

In the 1910 Census he is listed as Head of household, Ophelia Johns (alternate name: Othelia Johns) is
listed as his wife. At this time, his father William L. Johns is widowed
and residing with him and his younger brother Emmy Johns lives with them as well.
On this census he has a son listed as Barth age 2.

I couldn't find him on the 1920 Census, but I did found Ophelia Johns (listed with alternate names: Oplelia C Johns and Ophelie I Johns)
listed as head of household and widowed. Residing with her are Bartow L. Johns,
Annie P. Johns, and Perry T. Johns (My husband's grandfather) (born 05 june 1910). After this point I can not find any other information about Ophelia(born abt. 1887), Bartow(born abt 1908) or Annie(born abt 1913). All the census (1900 thru 1920 ) list them as living in Wilkinson Co.

Read somewhere Archie T. Johns married Carrie Patterson. In the 1900 census it list the Johns neighboring family as the Patterson's, and they had a daughter named
Carrie O. Patterson born about 1887. I haven't found any other information about Carrie Patterson.
Could Carrie and Ophelia be the same person?

We visited the Nunn-Wheeler Cemetery, and found W.L. Johns and several members of his family buried on one lot there.
Found a grave (on same lot as W.L. johns family) for A.T. Johns no date of birth or death. Could this be Archie T. Johns?
Also as you walk in the cemetery Before you get to A.T. Johns grave there is a grave for an Ophlia Johns no date of birth or death either.
Both graves have been marked with small white tiles, and they look alike. The next lot has Susan V. Patterson's (born 06 aug 1857) grave,
(Carrie Patterson's mothers name was Susan V. Patterson (born abt 1858 according to 1900 census), then on the next lot is where A.T. Johns is buried.

My husband's father said he used to go with his father to Milledgeville when he was a child, to visit his uncle Bartow.
I do have an old picture of Perry (husband's grandfather) with Annie and Bartow in front of a store. Store sign reads B.L. Johns Supermarket.
I can not find any information or records about the store.

I also have an old picture of my husband's grandfather (Perry) and his brother (Bartow) when they were babies, being held by a man. We have no name for the man. All we know is my husband's father said that was his grandfather. The photo looks like it may have been done professionally, since it is about a 5x7 size, and is glued to a cardboard frame.

Any information that anyone may have and is willing to share please let me know.
gpjohnsjr@yahoo.com
Thank you so much
GJohns

I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Jesse Lewis b- ca 1810 in Georgia. He married Lucy (?) and raised his family in Alabama. He died in Mobile County Alabama after 1880. I know this isn't much information to go on but I have hit a wall on this line of my family. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Looking for the ancestors of John Taylor Lord. He was born in abt. 1767 or so and died in 1840 in Jackson County, Ga (which is up the Oconee River from Toomsboro). His descendents were in Jackson and Oconee Counties. I'd like to know if there's a link between my line and the Wilkinson County Lords.

I am researching any information regarding Chaney M. Lindsay, b. 1803 SC, Lucy, b abt 1803, SC, Rose Ann E.(Rosanna) Holcombe(granddaughter) I know that Chaney owned a store and mill on the Oconee River. He lost everything to the Union soldiers during Shermans march. That he filed a claim with the Southern Claims Commission and was refused. I am looking for death dates, locations of burials and Rose Ann's marriage. Our local library does not have a lot of Wilkinson information. So I am at a sticking place. Rose Ann's brother Warren L. is my great grandfather. When his father Elijah S. returned from the war he moved with him to Gwinnett Cty. We find no record of Rose Ann moving. Any information would be much appreciated.

I am researching the family of Nathan Jackson who died in 1829, was married to Lydia & had one known son, James Jackson. My questions are:
1. Who were Nathan's other children? His will mentions children but only names James for he was named as the executor.
2. William Jackson whom I believed died in 1831, is there a connection between him & Nathan?
3. Elizabeth Pittman who married Nathan's son James, who were her parents?

Thank You,
Lena

You need to read all of Joseph Maddox information and search all census records.
I do not have documentation of this but this is what I believe to be true.
Sarah(sallie) A. Jackson, dau of James and Elizabeth in this cemetery, married, according to Maddox, John D. Rawlins.
If you will check the older dates on this family group, you will see that she,Sarah Jackson, married him and one of her daughters married a Duncan.
I have no primary info on this family. Perhaps someone else can help you more.I know they are closely related because of family members mentioning their names, etc. NO one ever thought to tell us younger ones why someone was called "cousin' because they were parts of their daily lives.
betty in ga

I am also researching the Fountain Family of Georgia. This is all i know as of now. I just started. My grandmother was born in 1920 to James Fountain aka Jim and Mary Swain.
James had a brother named William who married Mary Swain
before James married her. If this sounds familier please contact me at: grandmar43@yahoo.com. Any information will
be appreciated.

Thank You,
Robin

Re: Elizabeth Wynn Land Grant of 1810

The Elizabeth Wynne referred to in the land grant was the widowed wife of Peter Wynne, b. abt. 1736 in Virginia, d. 5 Oct 1797 in Burke County, Georgia. Elizabeth was a fortunate drawer in the 1807 Georgia Land Lottery and received Lot 275 in the 24th district of Wilkinson County. I believe that she died in Burke County before she was awarded the lot. The lottery drawings were held between 10 August 1807 and 23 Sep 1807. She died on 5 Sep 1807 in Burke County. I believe that the lot went to her children although I don't have any information regarding them ever having moved to or done anything with the lot.

This Elizabeth is certainly not the Elizabeth Echols that married William Wynne, Sr. and the mother of William (Billy) Wynne, who married Susan Hinson and lived in Wilkinson County. William and Elizabeth Echols Wynne are my 3rd great-grandparents and I would be happy to share any information about them or the other Wynnes of Burke County and those that migrated to Wilkinson County.

Here's what I gleaned off another tree at ancestry.com.

Children: Lucy, Nancy, Nathan, James, Caroline
Parents: Jesse Pittman 12/8/1769-1836 and Jincie Garrett 1769-?

Related to William: I don't think he was his son but probably related as a cousin, etc.
