Hello, David. A cousin in Texas has been researching the Walton’s in Virginia... as she is related through what we call “both lines:” …the line from Edward Walton and Elizabeth Booth Napier, and the line from Robert Walton and Frances Sherwood, parents of Robert Walton (II) who was the father of George Walton, signer; Edward definitely being a generation or two before Robert’s (Edward born abt 1645, Robert born abt 1692.) The problem is: no positive proof has yet been found of a tie, a relationship between the two. I think anyone you talk with about this would say they think there IS a link, but there is no proof to that. I keep hoping someone will come forward with a family Bible, perhaps, that can offer some sort of proof, in the absence of official records.
Your line, I assume from the names, comes from Robert Walton (grandson of Edward) who married Keziah Overton? I would love to know more about your line…. ??? Overton Harrison Walton died in Putnam County, GA.
I know that both of these “lines” intermarried…. My cousin in Texas being a prime example, as she is a descendant through Edward Walton’s line, and also through Robert’s line… the Walton’s of Augusta.
I would be very interested in learning more about your line… and who knows… perhaps one day we will find the missing link! Thanks, Ginga Mylius
gmylius@charter.net Below are some of my notes, on the Overton/Walton line (some notes withheld for the privacy of living descendants – some withheld because of space) Please forgive typo's... and any corrections or additions welcomed!

William O. Walton of LaFayette, lawyer, editor and representative in the
legislature, was the speaker at the Memorial Day celebration here in Langdon
Hall, the college chapel. Among other things, Mr. Walton said:
" All the battles in the Civil War were not fought with lead and powder, but
the mothers, sisters and others at home who made such sacrifices for this
great cause, helped. I am out of the clay of the South and I am glad of it.
The Confederate blood ran through every loyal Confederate soldier when the
war was over. They returned to the South, to their various homes and found
them desolate and everything gone, scalawags and carpetbaggers in charge of
the government; in fact, they found everything except good. To the South,
the greatest credit goes to the Confederate soldier who helped
whole-heartedly to rebuild it. Let us this day rededicate our lives to such
an occasion as Memorial Day. The South was not conquered, but overcome by
large numbers and let us remember today those who sleep in unmarked graves
unknown to us. The speaker turned to the Confederate veterans on the
platform and said "Soon, all of you will be gone, and we love you for what
you have given us. May you rest in peace under the shade of the trees over
the river with Stonewall Jackson."
There is a William O. Walton, III, Auburn today.
