Research question Creek Lands/GA/AL/TN Cherokee land lottery?

Posted: 1 Feb 2010 8:55PM GMT
Classification: Query
I have two separate ancestral families from NC, who migrated to GA>AL>TN
Here is where they were in the various US census'.

1830 Surry Co. NC
1840 Campbell Co. GA
1850 Troup Co. GA
1860 Tallapoosa AL
1870 Marshall Co. TN

Can anyone explain why they might have been moved to Campbell to Troup to Tallapoosa? Campbell and Troup are close to the Creek and Cherokee lands,

Is there somewhere to find land lottery indices?
Campbell and Troup Co. GA, seem far west in 1840/1850.

The two families had children who ended up marrying in 1861, they were not neighbors but traveled the same pattern.
Any directions, or places to look for history of these counties would be helpful.
Thank
Kristina
