Looking for Leon Arthur Thigpen

I am researching my husbands family. I have traced back to Leon Arthur Thigpen, born in Georgia, (January 1872-23 November 1936). He is the son of Travis T Thigpen (1824-1896) and Mary Davis (1826-1899). I cannot seem to link him with the extensive Thigpen history online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eaves Family National Association Reunion 2013

EAVES FAMILY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

REUNION 2013

Are you interested in your EAVES heritage? Are you at a brick wall in your research? Would you like help in your research. If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then YOU need to make plans to attend the Annual EAVES Family National Association Reunion. One is being held in the Irmo, South Carolina area.

SO make plans to attend. The EFNA has been in existence since

"In 1978, in his quest to find out more about his Eaves line, Dr. Robert (Bob) Wendell Eaves Sr., of Washington, DC, (born in Rutherford County, NC) became acquainted with Curtis and Gladys Jacobs of Fields, LA. In 1976 Bob Eaves had organized a successful reunion in Spindale, NC. Descendents of his great-great grandfather, Andrew Eaves attended. After much correspondence between the Jacobs and Bob Eaves, Bob started to plan a reunion in Spindale, NC in the summer of 1979 and invite as many Eaves and Eaves descendents as he and the Jacobs could contact. Spindale was selected because of the vast majority of Eaves contacted were descendents of Graves Eaves II, who came from Brunswick County, Virginia and settled in Rutherford County, NC in 1775.

Unfortunately Bob Eaves Sr passed away in January 1979 before he could fulfill his dream of a reunion for the descendents of Graves Eaves II. Although he could not get the reunion back on track for 1979 Bob Eaves Jr., (son of Bob Eaves Sr.,) of Atlanta, GA after meeting with the Jacobs, organized what was to be the first nationwide Eaves Family reunion. The first reunion was held at the Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC. At one time Andrew Eaves (mentioned above) owned land at the community called “Frog Level” and it is believed that part of the college campus is on that property.

Besides notifying everyone on Dr. Bob’s list and the Jacob’s list, Bob Jr., sent notices to 97 newspapers mostly in the Sunbelt states. A terrific response was received from these announcements and approximately 150 “cousins” showed up with 127 signing the register for the first reunion on June 22, 1980. Fourteen states (NC, SC, GA, FL, MD, OK, CA, TN, KY, MS, NY, AL, AR, and IL) were represented at the reunion.

SO, if you are an Eaves, married an Eaves or have Eaves somewhere in your family tree, please make plans to attend the Eaves Family National Association (EFNA) Reunion to be held August 2 – 4, 2013 in Irmo, South Carolina at the Wingate Hotel See information below:

WHEN: August 2 – 4, 2013

WHERE: Wingate Hotel
217 Lanneau Court – Harbison Blvd
Columbia, SC
803-407-6166
800-826-5570
http://www.columbiawi.com/location.aspx

RATES $79.00 per night plus taxes (TELL THEN YOU ARE WITH
the Eaves Reunion to get this rate)

HOSTS: Don & Courtney Eaves - phone (704) 519-8842
email address- eldereaves@yahoo.com

FRIDAY NIGHT – Meet & Greet social time - dinner on your own
Several restaurants nearby.
Monterey Mexican which is right beside
the hotel.

I have a relative that owned several 1000 acres of land in Lanier County (at that time it was Lowndes County) Georgia. Some records indicate his name was John O'Bryan but his grave stone has Johnnie O'Brien which is located at Burnt Church Cemetery in Lanier County, GA. He was married to Rachael Sirmans Carter. She was first married to Issac Carter & had several children by him. She later married Johnnie O'Brien and had several children. Johnnie O'Brien came from Ireland at a young age & eventually settled in South Georgia prior to and after the Civil War.

I'm tracing some family history as a surprise gift for some nieghbors, so I can't ask them anything directly. One line goes back to Malcolm Watson and his wife Sarah Ann Barbee. I see that one of their children, Joseph Lewis Watson, born 23 Feb 1866 in Georgia, United States, married a Fannie Barbee. Was she related to his mother and, if so, do you know how? Thanks!

Elizabeth "Eliza" (Hutchinson) Caldwell (1835 - c. 1861/2) - GA/AL

I'm looking for the parents of Elizabeth "Eliza" Hutchinson, born in 1835 in Georgia and died about 1861 or 1862 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. She had an older sister Amanda who was born in 1834 in Georgia and died about 1853 in either Georgia or Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

Both sisters were wives of Charles Mitchell "Mitt" Caldwell. He was born on January 18, 1831 in Monroe County, Georgia and died on October 12, 1911 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. His parents were Richard Hornbuckle and Harriet Louise (Waller) Caldwell. Through Harriet, Charles was a great-grandson of the semi-famous (Colonel) William and Elizabeth (Anthony) Candler.

Amanda married Charles on December 16, 1849 in Troup County,Georgia. They'd two children who were stillborn, and Amanda is assumed to have died either in or shortly after the birth of the second one. Elizabeth was Charles' second wife. After her death, he would then marry two more times: Mary Ann Elizabeth Dunn as a third wife, then finally Martha Elizabeth Williamson.

My lineal ancestor was Charles and Elizabeth's son William Alexander Caldwell who married Elizabeth Mary "Lizzie" Gates.

If anyone can shed light on this genealogical brick wall, it's be much appreciated! Please feel free to post here or contact me at jacobcarpenter@zoho.com

Jacob Carpenter
jacobcarpenter@zoho.com

Since Pete died in 1927, I would write to the Vital Records in GA and get a copy of his death certificate. This could list his parents. You can order them here:

http://health.state.ga.us/programs/vitalrecords/death.asp

If that doesn't work, try the marriage records, if you know when and where he got married. This should also list his parents.

Since he was in the military, you may be able to get his pension application and service information.

Looks like he served in the 39th Company U.S. Coast Artillery Corps. Found that on Familysearch.org

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help, but the census takers and transcribers have really managed to mess up with the surname.

Good luck.
Sandra

HELP! (HART FAMILY IN GEORGIA)

I have information that was given to me at a family reunion that says that my great-great-great grandfather Hart (unknown first name) was born in N.C. in 1830. He married my great-great-great grandmother Frances (unknown maiden name) in 1850 (in Georgia maybe?). They had a child Edna in 1852 followed by John in 1854 and Cornelia in 1856. He died in the Civil War in 1860-1861. Frances then remarried a Jowers (unknown first name)in 1862-1863. They had Bryant in 1864, Nancy in 1866, Ella in 1868, and Zema in 1874. Frances Hart Jowers died in 1906- 1909 due to cancer. I do not have a lot of information. I would love to know my great-great-great grandfather's name and where he died in the Civil War (what battle, etc.). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Britni
Stone Branch on old McElveen property

I am working on a research project that involves part of the old McElveen property in Bulloch County, Georgia. I am trying to find the location of a stream called Stone Branch, which is a tributary of Iric Branch, north of Black Creek. I have been unable to find any map that shows Stone Branch. Does anyone know? I believe it is the tributary that flows into Iric Branch just southeast of Kendrick Pond.

Thank you!
John Calhoun

My grandfather was named Roy Hughley, and my grandmother who I never met is named Mary Francis. But they are from Dadeville, and they moved to St. Louis. My grandfathers siblings were Eugene Hughley, and Hattie Pearl Hughley.

I am and have been searching for the final resting place of my GGGgrandfather Freeman Allen Livingston, he died in May of 1850 in Heard County. I have been able to find no trace of him. He was considered "well to do" to I would assume that there is a burial site SOMEWHERE. Any leads are helpful. I have found only one Livingston grave site and that is his son Issac Thomas Levingston (misspelled) and that was near a house in Corinth, Ga.

Thank YOU!

Cheerful Long
cheerful.long@yahoo.com

Tater Hill is located in McCaysville, Fannin County, Georgia (zip code 30555) which is not far from the North Carolina border. I grew up in McCaysville, at the foot of Tater Hill and so far as I know, it's the only hill of that name in the US. McCaysville is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, right on the Georgia/Tennesse boundry line. In fact, one side of the town is McCaysville, Ga and the other side of the town is Copperhill, Tennessee.

There was a Davis family who lived there during the same time as I, but I moved away in 1972. I attached a photo of "Tater Hill". The Fannin County web site is http://fannincountyga.org/

Thank you, I went and started reading, boy there is a lot of information in that thing, will take a while to work through it. I love how detailed he was, even noting the time of day they were born. A real treasure.
thank you again
Windy
