POCATELLO — Ruth Laker Alldredge, 79, passed away in her sleep Monday, August 20, 2012. Ruth was born, January 25, 1933, and raised in St. Charles, Idaho. She graduated from Filmore High School, where she participated in the choir and marching band. Ruth then moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she began working as an operator for the telephone company.
She then met and married George Alldredge. Together they raised four children.
Ruth had a passion for music that she carried with her throughout her life. For an extra income, she taught accordion lessons and also started Ruth’s Potatoes, where she made and distributed French fries. She also had a passion for animals, especially dogs. Ruth and George purchased a family pet, a Great Pyrenees named Poco. This began Ruth’s interest in professional breeding and showing. She and George were among the founding members of the Pocatello Kennel Club. She raised and showed multiple AKC Champions traveling to dog shows all over the Northwest. During this time, Ruth and George opened Pom Poso Kennels, a family ran boarding and grooming facility.
The wife of a railroad engineer, Ruth was a member of the Junior Old Timers. Ruth tried her hand at many arts and crafts including wood working. Her woodworking skills were a great benefit to George and Ruth when they built a cabin in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. The couple loved to share their mountain paradise with their many friends and family. They hosted many gatherings filled with activities such as snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and fishing. The Alldredge cabin brought and continues to bring many wonderful family memories. One of Ruth’s joys was teaching her family to hunt and fish.
Always a member of the LDS Church, she and George were sealed in the Logan temple.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George Alldredge, her parents, Joseph and Bertha Laker, her brother, Grant Laker, and her sister, Della McFarland. She is survived by her five children, Jill (Rick) Brown, Craig (Teresa Kay) Alldredge, Kim LaRue (Kim R.) Kirkpatrick, Kay Ann (Victor) Velasquez, and Corey Dee Alldredge (Crystal Covert). Ruth also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Shasta, Jared, Antonio, Brenda, Misty, Roberto, Cassandra, Amanda, and Corey George.
