Leona Payne, 89, of Bloomington, Idaho returned to her heavenly father on Monday January 21st 2013 at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bloomington, Idaho May 14, 1923 the daughter of Charles Lorenzo and Pearl Laverna Quinton Lewis. She was the oldest of nine children. She attended elementary school in Bloomington and Fielding high school in Paris Idaho. She married James Earnest Payne in Bloomington Idaho June 27, 1941. Later their union was sealed in the Logan Temple September 27, 1962. Together they had four children Gary, Evelyn, Rex and Diane.
Leona and James loved to run the family farm together.
Leona worked at the Paris Drug Store the Maverick in St Charles and the Allingers store in Montpelier.
Leona enjoyed quilting, crocheting, camping, fishing and her family. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and was a relief society visiting teacher in the Bloomington ward.
Leona is survived by two sons Gary Payne St George Utah and Rex (Shelia) Payne Montpelier Idaho and two daughters Evelyn (Kent) Stucki Montpelier Idaho and Diane (Alan) Hubbard Grace Idaho. One brother Milford (Shirley) Lewis Idaho Falls Idaho and two sisters Marvine (Roy) Herrea and Verda (Robert) Longhurst of Idaho Falls Idaho. She is also survived by thirteen grand children and twenty eight great grand children.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband James Earnest Payne, four sisters Elaine Lewis, LaRee Dokken, LaRae Ferguson and Delila Martinsen, one brother Harold Lewis, a daughter in law Marilyn Payne, one grandson and seven great grand children.
A viewing will be held Friday January 25 from 6PM to 8PM at the Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier.
Services will be held 11AM at the Paris Stake Center in Paris Idaho Saturday January 26. Prior to the service a viewing will be held from 9AM to 10:30AM.
