Gene W. Widmer, 69, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on October 13, 2013 at his Tucson residence. Gene was born June 11, 1944 in Montpelier, Idaho to George Louis and Margaret Widmer. Gene was raised in Geneva, Idaho on his parent’s ranch where he learned family values and work ethic. He attended and graduated from Geneva Elementary and Junior High Schools, Montpelier High School and Utah State University.
He served in the United States Army from 1967-1968 with an honorable discharge. After his schooling and time in the military he worked for: General Electric Company in Phoenix, Arizona; General Dynamics Company in San Diego, California; and Hughes Aircraft Company (Raytheon) in Tucson, Arizona, retiring in 2006 after 35 dedicated years (Industrial Engineer, and the last thirty years in Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering Management). He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in numerous positions, including Young Men President, Bishop’s Counselor, Bishop and High Council representative.
Gene enjoyed most sports, time with his family, dancing, attending concerts / special events; he had many other interests and hobbies. He played freshman and varsity basketball at Utah State University and was fortunate to play in the NCAA tournament, achieving “Sweet 16” status.
Gene is survived by x-wives (Gloria Koll and Hanah Ritter), four daughters (Victoria J. Sneed, Monica (Brian) Anderson, Jaclyn (Todd) Arnell, and Haley A. Toone), grandchildren (Nicole Downs, Alexis Sneed, Chase Anderson, Courtney Anderson, Ashlyn Anderson, Baylee Anderson, Quinn Arnell and Avie Arnell) (two sisters (Fawn Phelps and Beth Spencer), one brother (Grant Widmer), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Ray L. Widmer), sisters (Ruth May Bunn and Doris Irving), brother-in-law (Todd Bunn) niece, Helene Irving and nephews (Larry Irving) & (Ray L. Widmer Jr.).
A visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 on 1655 S. Melpomene Way at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Tucson, Arizona. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. The Internment will be at the St. Charles Cemetery, Bear Lake County, Idaho on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
