Ramona Mae Smith Windley passed away on January 31, 2014 at the age of 85 from cause’s incident to age. Ramona was born on January 31, 1929 in Gridley, California to parents Lewis Leon Smith and Marietta Carter Weaver Smith.
At a young age, she lost her mother and her father moved the young family to Georgetown, Idaho where he raised Ramona, her two sisters, and three brothers on the dairy farm that provided their livelihood for many years. She attended Bear Lake High School in Montpelier, Idaho. After her father remarried, she also became part of a larger family of 10 added siblings.
She married Darrell William Windley in 1946 in Montpelier, later solemnized for Time and Eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. They were together for 62 years until his passing in January of 2008. Darrell was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for many years and while they were young they had to move around to the various locations where he could hold seniority to work. Because of this, they lived in Montpelier, Pocatello, Glenn’s Ferry, Roy, Utah and finally Ogden, Utah.
Ramona and Darrell raised four boys in Roy and Ogden. She enjoyed sewing, having learned from her grandmother as a little girl. This skill served her well as she was later employed as a seamstress for Utah Tailoring Mills in Ogden for many years. Her sons got a kick out of knowing that some of the clothing she had sewn was worn by Hollywood celebrities and other notable persons all over America.
She was active in her faith and had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She had served in the various organizations in the LDS Church as a teacher, counselor, visiting teacher and other callings. For many years she was a member of the Ogden 62nd Ward. Currently, she was a member of the Harrisville 10th Ward. She was kind-hearted with a sweet, quiet personality. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by one brother, Marvin Smith of Rawlins, Wyoming and three step-sisters, Arlene Valentine, Norma Toomer and Vernae Lester.
She is also survived by her four sons: Terrell (Linda), Layton; Rick (Sarah), North Ogden; Curtis (Donna), Ogden; and Grant (Sherry), Pleasant View. She had 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Frank Smith and Raymond Smith, two sisters, Dora Jensen and Elva Wilmot.
