Robert (Bob) Anthony Schmidt, age 72, passed away at his home in Montpelier, Idaho on February 10, 2014. Robert was born on April 8, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Karl and Marie Schmidt. Bob graduated from South High School and went on to attend the University of Utah earning a Bachelors Degree in Business before serving his country in the Army Reserves.
Bob married Barbara Hennekes on September 25, 1964 and together they had four wonderful sons. In 1971, Bob started Schmidt Body & Paint, which became the family business. Bob was a very hard worker who was dedicated to the success of the business and took the time to instill those qualities in his sons. He often said, "The hardest part of any job is just getting started". Outside of the business, Bobs accomplishments were many ~ he was an exceptional Scout Master producing 17 Eagle Scouts, a volunteer Ranger where he would round up the buffalo on Antelope Island, Western Regional Trapshooting Champ and a Professional Boat Racer. Bob touched the lives of many and had a handshake you could never forget.
Bob had a great love for Bear Lake where he built a family cabin spending summers and weekends enjoying the lake with his a family. The 'Ultimate Sportsman', Bob also enjoyed fishing at Fish Lake, hunting, horseback riding and golfing. He was well known as "Big Bob" when he had ownership at Lakeside Resort. Later in life, Bob enjoyed farming in Montpelier, fishing with his brother, shooting with his sons, participating in the Senior Games and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by Barbara Schmidt, sons Robert (Shelly), Matthew (Melissa), Travis (Lindsay), Tracy (Michelle) and 11 grandchildren ~ Tas, Tanner, Tyrance, Nicholas, Brinlee, Tristian, Donny, Ava, Adelaide, Preslie, Marshall and Abigail. Siblings ~ Henry, Ruby, Walter and Joyce. He is preceded in death by his parents Karl and Marie Schmidt and his sister Carol. Funeral services will be held Friday February 21, 2014 at 3pm at Riverview 3rd Ward: 11400 South 700 West Draper, UT 84020.
