Thanks. I have both of these and the reference in the WW2 to Midland MI convinced me that this the right person. Oddly in the WW1 registration Daniel is his brother, but there is not and never has been a place called Aldamer in British Columbia.

Russ

I also would really appreciate an obit. I am interested in Charles McKinnon. He was born in Midland, MI in 1877 and lived in Priest River, Bonner Co from the 1910 census to at least 1942 (WW2 Draft Registration). Charles was a logger, teamster, etc. There is no evidence of a marriage.

The only Charles McKinnon buried in Priest River d 23 Mar 1953. An obit would help establish whether this was the same person. The gravestone includes the nickname "Skookum Charley" (findagrave). Again, an obit might shed light on how he came by this nickname.

Russ McGillivray
Caledon, ON Canada

According to the ship manifest from Ellis Island, Franceso Naccarato boarded the ship with his 2 sons, Pietro(Pete)& Filippo(Phillip) and his daughter Luisa (louisa) I believe Josephine was the sister in law because the other daughter and Franks wife ended up staying in Grimaldi. Louisa Keyser(Naccarato) was my great grandmother. Phillip and Pete,(based on a family relationship chart) are my great great Uncles...

I think Francesco Naccarato 1857-1909 was Josephines brother. Their sister Antonia 1863-1912 was married to Charles Anselmo. That is why when Francesco died the Anselmo's raised Louise. I think the six Naccarato brothers were cousins.

Just found Frank in the 1940 census--in Sandpoint, Bonner Co., ID. He is listed as follows:

Francis E. Davis, age 28, b. Canada, in 1935 he lived in East Liverpool OH, is working as a laborer for WPA road construction

Also with him are:

Ardith P. Davis, wife, age 24, b. NE, living in the same place in 1935
Pearl V., age 7, b. ID, living in the same place in 1935
James F., age 5, b. IS, living in the same place in 1935
[These children, I firmly believe, are Ardith's from another marriage, although they are listed as Davises]
Walter A., age 3, b. ID
Donna L., age 2, b. ID
Beulah M., age 3/12. b. ID

This gives me more info. However, I have been unable to find anything on Ardith or the 3 youngest children. I did e-mail someone re getting a copy of the marriage info for Frank and Ardith, so am hoping that comes through.

If anyone has any knowledge of any of these people, including Ardith and her 2 children, and especially of Walter, Donna and Beulah, please e-mail me at mpike@rochester.rr.com.

Thank you!

Hello,

I posted this on another post.

My Great Great Grandmother was Josephine Naccarato, born 1849 in Grimaldi Italy. Her death certificate lists her father as a Phil Naccarato and she married a Fransisco Veltri and they immigrated to the US. I know they had family living in Priest River as their daughter Carmina Veltri married a Giuseppe Emanual Camozzi, where they had eight children there before moving to Canada around 1906. My aunt Elizabeth visited a cousin Phil Naccarato in 1932. Also my Uncle John visited a second cousin Frank Anselmo the same year. It would be nice if you could piece in these missing pieces for me.

Gordon

I have found acouple of the people that died in WW II may not be reported dead for several months. It may take a little bit to find the notification.

Received reply from Bonner County Museum regarding looking for Eric Mattson listings in Sandpoint, Idaho City Directories between 1920 & 1924. They do not have directories from 1917-1922. No listing was seen for Eric Mattson in the 1916 or 1923 directories.

So I did get an answer at least for the 1923 directory. Would still wonder about 1920-22.

I believe he was in Coeur D'Alene as of 1924.

DENNY KOFFEL IS KILLED IN CYCLE-AUTOMOBILE CRASH

A corner’s jury late Wednesday afternoon brought in a verdict that Elmer Koffel had not come to his death “by criminal action” after hearing evidence, examining the scene of the crash and looking over the two vehicles. Virgil Allbee, driver of the car that turned across the highway in front of the motorcycle, did not testify, but the two youths riding with him told their story. Allbee was still in the hospital.

When his motorcycle crashed into a car driven by Virgil Albee Saturday afternoon, Elmer (Denny) Koffel, 19, of Kootenai was instantly killed. The motorcycle, which was traveling east from Sandpoint on highway 10A struck the Chrysler coupe with such force that the right front fender was wrecked. It is understood that Albee, proceeding west toward Sandpoint, was making a right hand turn across the lane of oncoming traffic into Ponderay at the Pend Oreille gardens corner, according to official reports on the fatal accident.

The force of the impact tore Koffel’s shoes from his feet. The youth lay in a crumpled heap where he had fallen near the car. Albee was seriously injured, suffering head injuries, major lacerations and shock. He was hospitalized and continued in a semi-conscious condition through Sunday. An inquest is pending Albee’s recover, coroner L. G. Moon said Monday.

Pat Murphy and Frank Mitchell, Kootenai, teenage passengers in Albee’s car, wee less seriously hurt, sustaining bruises and cuts.

Two motorists told investigating sheriff Robert Ellersick the motorcycle passed them when they were going east about 45 miles an hour. Sheriff Ellersick said C. E. Moody, who was working on the Spokane International railroad tracks near the highway, was an eye witness.

Koffel, a graduate of Sandpoint high school, has been attending Gonzaga University for two years majoring in law. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Koffel of Kootenai, he is survived by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Moon chapel.

Sandpoint News Bulletin June 1951

I'm looking for a gentleman that my Dad knew when he was in the Air Force. Unfortuneately, the only information I have on him is his last name, because my Dad and all his friends called each other by their last names. My Dad was born in 1932 and I believe Bowser may have been older than my Dad. It was rumored that he moved to Idaho and lived some where in the mountains. I'd love any information that anyone can provide on him. Sincerely, Ellen

Jesse Edward Haines

JESSE HAINES DROWNS IN RIVER AT LACLEDE MILL

Stepped from Unloading Dock to Avoid Rtolling Log – seized by cramps – funeral at Colburn.

Jesse Haines, a former resident of Sandpoint, was drowned in the Pend d’Oreille river at Laclede shortly before the noon hour Monday when he slipped from the unloading dock at the pond of the A. C. White Lumber company’s mill and plunged 10 feet into the water.

According to a statement made by Steve Hull, who was working with Haines on the dock, each man was at one end of the car of logs they were unloading when one of the logs turned and began rolling toward Haines. The latter stepped backward and fell into the river, but came to the surface and called to Hull, “hold the logs.”

Hull asked “can you make it all right?” and Haines replied, “fine and dandy!” Hull then devoted all his attention to keeping the logs on the car from rolling in on Haines and called across the pond to Charles Adair, who was working on the boom, to watch Haines. Adair called back that he couldn’t see Haines and a minute search of the mill pond failed to reveal him, developing the fact that after assuring Hull he was all right he had sunk from sight presumably seized with cramps.

An effort was made to raise the body by exploding dynamite in the river, but this failed and the body was recovered later that afternoon by the use of grappling hooks. Tuesday the remains were taken to the home of Haines’ parents at Colburn and the funeral took place there at 12:30 Wednesday noon, Rev. W. L. Livingston of Sandpoint officiating, and interment being made in the Lakeview Cemetery (Sandpoint).

Haines was 28 years old at the time of death and had served in the Canadian army during the world war. He came to Sandpoint in the spring of 1919 and entered the employ of the City garage as a mechanic and chauffeur, but about a year ago left here for Laclede to enter the employ of the White Lumber company with which firm he had remained. Besides his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Haines, of Colubnr, he is survived by a widow and three children, two girls and a boy, whose ages range from 4 to 6.

Pend d’Oreille Review Friday, August 6, 2910.

DROWNED AT LACLEDE

Fell in River While Unloading Logs and was Seized with Cramps.

Jesse Haines was drowned a week ago in the Pend d’Oreille river at Laclede while unloading logs. He was at one time a resident of Sandpoint. Deceased leaves a widow and three children, besides his father and mother, who reside at Laclede. Funeral sermon was delivered by the Rev. W. L. Livingston and interment was made at Lakeview Cemetery. Haines was 28 years old and had served in the Canadian army during the world war. He came to Sandpoint in the spring of 1917 and worked in the city garage as mechanic and chauffeur.

North Idaho News August 10, 1920
My mother was able to locate the newspaper article/obit on Jesse. I will pick it up from her tomorrow and post it tomorrow night. It mentions who he was working for, where he was working and that he drowned in the river. There is mention on the copy she found of a photograph (#11.213). For a copy of that photo you will need to contact the Bonner County Historical Museum (http://www.bonnercountyhistory.org/) and there will be a charge for a copy of it. Please make sure you give them the complete name, date, infor you are looking for and the above number to narrow their search.

If you would like me to mail you the copy of the newspaper article, please give me your mailing address at garrison5671@roadrunner.com. No charge for the copy there :) Hope this helps.

Mary

I doubt there will be any Law Enforcment records for this accident. They don't keep them from that long ago. But accidents made front page during the 1920's so I will look up that newspaper for you. It looks like he died in Laclede, Idaho which is 1/2 between Priest River and Sandpoint (the county seat). The Idaho Death Index shows #031113 Birth date 7/13/1892 and death date 8/2/1920. The 1920 Federal Census shows Jesse E Haines age 27 born in OK as renting a home on the Priest Lake Road and a timber worker in a mill. He is listed as being able to read and write. He is listed with his wife, Joe O, age 27; son, Joe O age 6; daughter Hazel B age 5 and daughter Mildred age 3. I should have a copy of the obit and if it was a logging or mill accident the news article on Saturday.
