Arco, Idaho—A Welcoming Place to Be

You may have seen this slogan around town during Atomic Days on t-shirts, surveys and a display in the park depicting a revitalized community and wondered what it was all about.
The Lost River GEM Team is made up of community volunteers who have a passion for Arco’s economic prosperity and are working to make Arco all that it can be. Working in partnership with the City of Arco, Butte County, Lost Rivers Economic Development and Idaho Department of Commerce & Labor, the Lost Rivers GEM Team is an economic and community development committee authorized to perform the tasks necessary for maintaining certification as a GEM COMMUNITY, developing and implementing economic and community development projects, applying for grant programs as necessary, in order to help sustain the community’s economic and community development efforts.
The Lost River GEM Team’s first priority is the development of a Main Street Revitalization Plan and a Community Development Plan. The INL has been supporting our efforts by allowing us to work with both a strategic planner and graphic designer as we move forward in our process. After a long discussion about what our community is and is NOT the Team decided that the vision that encompassed everyone’s vision is for Arco is . . .
“A Welcoming Place To Be” . . . in Business, a Resident, or a Visitor.
In order to begin planning, the Team really wanted input from the community. An initial survey was handed out prior to the Atomic Days Parade by student volunteers to get the opinions of both residents and visitors to our community. The Team would like to continue to get your input. The display from the park is now available for viewing at the BIC along with surveys. The drawings are only ideas to get people thinking and talking about what a revitalized Main Street could look like. It is the Team’s plan to post in several locations throughout the community during the coming weeks to ensure that we get feedback from as many residents as possible.
If you would like to complete a survey and have not yet been given an opportunity, please stop by the BIC to pick one up. If you would like to add your name to a list of potential volunteers to work on projects once the plans are completed, please contact Michelle Holt, Lost Rivers Economic Development at 527-3060 Ext. 11. If you are an out-of-town Advertiser subscriber and would like to participate in the survey please call Michelle or e-mail her at lred@atcnet.net
