Micahel Nelson Mathis, 39, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at his home in Blackfoot.
Mike was born on May 3, 1967 in Arco, Idaho to David Sturgeon and Anona Jean Bingham Mathis. Mike was raised in Seattle, Washington, Rock Springs, Wyoming and Howe, Idaho and attended elementary schools in those cities as well. He returned to the Lost River area when he was in high school and graduated from Mackay High School in 1985.
Mike was married to Lorraine Leyba on February 15, 1991 in Mackay. They resided in Mackay until 2004 at which time they relocated to Blackfoot.
He worked in all areas of the construction industry. He also sold Cutco knives and was a top salesman for a time. However, Mike’s pride was in his job as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Mackay school district.
Mike was a member of the LDS church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking drives, socializing, and collecting knives and pens. He also coached his sons’ youth football teams in both Mackay and Blackfoot.
Mike is survived by his wife Lorraine; two sons, Dustin and K. C., all of Blackfoot; his mother Anona of Moore, his paternal grandfather Nelson Mathis of Lewiston, and a brother David of Blackfoot.
He was preceded in death by a son Michael, his father David, a brother Jeffrey Duane, paternal grandmother Virgie Mathis, maternal grandparents Howard Bingham and Rula Lawson Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Moore LDS Stake Center. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Lost River Cemetery under the direction of Hawker Lost River Funeral Home.
