It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Gene Kunz, our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, who returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 21, 2012, when his heart could no longer sustain his life. Born to Frank and Phyllis Hayes Kunz, Gene cherished his early years growing up on his parent's sheep and cattle ranch in Caribou County, Idaho. Life on the ranch taught Gene the value of hard work, a legacy which he continued throughout his life. He loved playing football and basketball as a young man, and continued to be an arm-chair enthusiast until the day he died.
Gene was a missionary for the LDS Church in the Spanish-American Mission from 1948 to 1950. He married his childhood sweetheart, Gwen Lallatin, on February 14, 1951, and they later graduated from the BYU on the same day. They loved their 61 years together!
Gene's degree in Business Management led to his career in the corrugated container business at both Packaging Corporation of America and Boise Cascade Container Division. In his spare time, he loved camping and boating, taking pictures, spending time at his cabin on Bear Lake, and building custom furniture.
Gene is survived by his wife Gwen, children Kris and Rand (JoEllen); grandchildren Jonathan, Sara, Nicholas (Maria), Nathan (Dianna), Tyler (Jessi), Alesha, and Jackson; great-grand children Drew and Ella; his brother Jack (Karma); and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at the Monument Park 16th Ward Chapel (13th So. Wasatch Blvd.), Saturday, September 29th at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Perpetual Education Fund or a charity of your choosing. Interment will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Soda Springs, Idaho.
