SODA SPRINGS — Kathryn Elizabeth Peck, 92, of Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away peacefully of causes natural to age on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, while in the company of family members at a local care center. She was born in Grace, Idaho, on May 29, 1920, the daughter of the late Edgar and Maud (Collins) Andrus.
Kathryn graduated in 1938 from Soda Springs High School. She married Dale Garvey Peck and to this union four children were born; Edgar, Ellis, Erwin and Eldon. Dale and Kathryn were later divorced. She married Harold Berniel Hayes They lived in Bancroft until he passed away.
Kathryn worked at a care facility in Lava Hot Springs and enjoyed taking care of the elderly people. She also worked at the Idaho Café and the Trail Café. Kathryn was known for her Christmas Fruit Cake that she shared with all of her family and friends. She also gave her recipe of coleslaw to Larry Kunz, a cook at the Idaho Café when she worked there. Larry has gone on to be a very successful restaurant owner in Las Vegas still using Kathryn’s recipe.
Later in Kathryn’s life, she began to enjoy various hobbies. She was an avid reader, loved to play cards and Bingo. She enjoyed drinking coffee with her associates and her dear friends. She volunteered several years as a Pink Lady. She loved her children and grandchildren as well as her beloved cat Lucy, known by the rest of the family as Lucifer due to the cat’s ornery disposition.
Kathryn was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar and Erwin; and grandson Ronnie; and sister, Leora Williams. She is survived by sons, Ellis (Liz) Peck of Soda Springs, and Eldon (Gloria) Peck of Grace, daughters-in-law, Joan and Donna; as well as grandchildren, Connie, Brenda, Roger, Shena, Michael, Gary, Lisa, Damian, Dennis, Tina, Lance, Corina and Curtis as well as many great grandchildren.
Kathryn’s family will receive friends 10 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012, at Sims Funeral Home, 139 East 2nd South, in Soda Springs. Funeral services will begin at noon on Monday.
