Keith Larson Smart passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 6 surrounded by his family.
Keith was born to Ruth Elizabeth Larson and Floyd James Smart on March 10, 1926 in Preston, Idaho.
He played football for, and graduated from, Grace High School. After high school, he was honored to join the US Navy where he served on the USS Reno in the South Pacific and was wounded during a torpedo attack.
On May 1, 1956 Keith married the love of his life Joyce and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised three children - Terry (Debbie) Smart, Debby (Rand) Beckstead, and Stacy (Jim) Bolton. His family was the love of his life and, with his wife, the center of his world. At 50, Keith retired from Amoco Oil and spent the rest of his years with his sweetheart and family doing the things he loved. Keith enjoyed antiquing, swimming and bowling. Keith was honored and happy to arranged reunions for his fellow surviving shipmates of the USS Reno. He loved the outdoors. Keith and Joyce camped with their trailer throughout the West and enjoyed annual family reunions in Idaho, fishing and boating "at the lake". Keith was genuine, kind, gentle, loving and made each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel that they were his favorite.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings (Norma, Spencer, and Don), and his lovely daughter Stacy.
He is survived by his adoring wife Joyce, sisters Carolyn Rigby, Cleo Robinson, and Dee Ann (Glade) Christensen, son Terry (Debbie), daughter Debby (Rand), 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, many friends, and his darling dog LuLu.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, 2013. The family wishes to send great appreciation and thanks to the staff of CNS Hospice for their love and kind care of their hero.
