Lola Rigby Maughan was born in Newton, Cache County, Utah on July 15, 1923, the fourth child of eight children to Harold Edward and Mary Jones Rigby. She passed away July 6, 2013, nine days shy of her 90th birthday. Lola grew up in Boise, Idaho Falls and Grace, Idaho. She met her sweetheart Roy Maughan in Grace. They were married December 26, 1944 after Roy was honorably discharged from the US Army. After moving 13 times in the first year of marriage between Idaho, Utah and California because of Roy's work with the Union Pacific Railroad, Lola and Roy chose to settle in Sandy, Utah. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary prior to Roy's passing in 2006. Lola and Roy planted, irrigated and gathered-in abundant crops of fruits and vegetables which they generously shared. Lola made and canned delicious relishes, pickles, jams, juices and soups made with the harvest of their own garden. Lola was a wonderful mom, homemaker, a great cook, a fabulous baker and candy maker. She had many loving friends and enjoyed being part of Relief Society, Bridge Club, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved to get her hair done and collect things.
Most of all Lola was a quiet, patient soul who took time to listen and demonstrate her concern. She rarely complained even when in great pain. Lola had a fabulous sense of humor and loved to laugh and tell funny stories. She never judged people and didn't offer unsolicited advice. Together, Lola and Roy raised five children who were taught the values of hard work, service and determination. Lola brought up her children with unconditional love, always encouraging them to be and do their very best.
Lola is survived by her brother, Dr. Vaughan Rigby; sisters, Janice McClure and Sharron Maughan; and her five children, LeRoy (Teri) of Lindon, UT, Harold (Dottie) of Merrimack, NH, Doug (Debbie) of Cedar City, UT, Jeff (Diane) of Paris, ID, and Angela of South Jordan, UT. She has 21 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren.
Lola's family gives thanks to the devoted staff at Carrington Court for making "Miss Lola" so comfortable these last few months.
