Sarah Maria Jones Gunnell, 95, passed away peacefully on 11/12/13. She was born in Chesterfield, Idaho on July 22, 1918, to Albert William and Columbia Call Jones. She married Gerald A Gunnell in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 8, 1939. They were together for 57 years before his passing on February 20, 1996.
Sarah was active all her life in Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School as a teacher or member of the presidency of these auxiliaries. She had a strong testimony of the Latter-day Saint religion and the atonement of Jesus Christ.

She enjoyed teaching both girls and boys in the 4-H program for over 30 years. She had a strong work ethic and was always busy, teaching by example the different life values to her family. She enjoyed canning and preserving fruits and vegetables from the large garden that was planted each summer. She could prepare a nutritious meal in minutes from the storage room when family unexpectedly dropped by. Sarah was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothing both for herself and others. She loved to crochet, embroider and make quilts. At the last count, she had hand quilted 402 quilts of all sizes.

Sarah worked for 11 years as an assistant at the Utah State Extension Service and for 10 years in the Utah WIC program. She served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for many years.

Surviving are 3 daughters and 2 sons: Kathryn Huffaker (Bud), Brenda Ward (Steve), Linda Swain (Karl), Scott (Linda) and Todd (Peggy); 22 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were 1 granddaughter and 1 great granddaughter.

Graveside services will be held, Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Chesterfield, Idaho Cemetery with a visitation at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah, on Friday, November 15th from 5-7 p.m.
