Soda Springs: Cleston Murrie Godfrey, 88 of Soda Springs, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona Murrie was born on July 21, 1925 in Clarkston, Utah the son of Wm. Murland and Cora Priscilla Godfrey. He was raised in Clarkston, Utah and lived there until 1944 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in WWII.
Murrie married Rhea Jane Griffiths on October 26, 1948 in the Logan temple in Logan, Utah. Together they raised 6 children, Craig, Jacquelyn, Debra, Curtis, Cleston & Sheri. They also fostered two Lamanite children, Nancy Joette Village Center & Lyle T. Smith (deceased).
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had served in various positions, including Sunbeam teacher, home teacher, Bishop and Stake President. He was an officiator in the Logan Temple. He was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and had also served on the Board of the Idaho Grain Association and Soda Springs School Board.
Murrie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed a good warm Costco chocolate chip muffin with a glass of milk, In N Out burger with fries, a bowl of home canned fruit, and dancing with his sweetheart to the big band music of the 1940’s. He also enjoyed farming, of which he was the chief gopher in his later years, traveling and his many friends. Murrie knew no strangers, only friends he had not met.
He is survived by his wife Rhea Godfrey of Soda Springs, ID, one son Cleston & Kristie Godfrey of Mesa, AZ and three daughters, Jacquelyn and Todd Winegar of Salt Lake City, UT, Debra and Dan Moldenhauer of Soda Springs, ID, Sheri and Chad Christensen of Soda Springs, ID, and a daughter-in-law Nadine Godfrey of Orem, UT. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren and two sisters Janice Clark and Linda Hansen. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sons, Craig Murrie and Curtis M., and three brothers Lyle Montague, Faye Burke and Darrell Joseph.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Noon at the Hooper LDS Chapel in Soda Springs (281 East Hooper Ave.). A viewing will be held on Friday, April 25 from 6-8 pm at the Sims Funeral Home and from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation be made to the Soda Springs Senior Citizen Center or the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian Center.
