OGDEN, UTAH - Ownes Fred Baur, 90, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home of causes incident to age. He was born March 2, 1910, in Logan, Utah, a son of Edward T. & Emma Kohler Baur.
On March 5, 1936, Ownes married Helen Watlington. He grew up in Providence and Logan. He also lived in Preston, Idaho, and the Ogden area.
Ownes co-owned the Preston Electric and Furniture Company. Following his move to Ogden in 1957, he owned and operated Ogden Trailer Sales. He sold his business and retired in 1966.
He served as a councilman for the city of Preston, Idaho, where he was also an Exalted Ruler and member of the Elks, member and president of the Kiwanis, and member of the Lions Club. His interests were fishing, gardening, camping, Dutch oven cooking, and playing card games with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, and had taken his family on many memorable cruises.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, of Ogden, four daughters, Judith (J. Pymm) Chartrand, Chino Hills, CA, Charlotte (Dr. Jerry L.) Zaugg, Caldwell, ID, Pamela (Darwin) Brimhall and Myrth (Jerry) Priest, both of Ogden, UT; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Ownes is also survived by one brother, Melvin (Beth) Baur, Ogden, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 2000 at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment was in Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
