The Idaho Statesman, 11/14/12
Donna May Lloyd Mitchell, 88, of Emmett, Idaho, "took her dolls and dishes and went home" on October 30th, 2012, at 1:45 PM after a courageous fight with lung disease. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am Saturday, November 17th at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
Donna was born May 7, 1924, in Preston, Idaho, daughter of Joseph Hyrum Lloyd and Harriet Wells Lloyd. She was raised and educated in Downey and Preston Idaho.
She married Clarence Mitchell September 27, 1944, in Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized on Aug 16, 1957, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Donna and Clarence began their life together in Dayton, Idaho. In 1945 they moved to Vale, Oregon, where they farmed together. They moved to Emmett, Idaho, in 1959 and worked together as independent grocers for more than 20 years, owning the West Side Market, C&J Foodland, and Mitchell's IGA Foodliner.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, brother Lynn, two sisters Lorean and Thelma, and granddaughter Angela Chapman Butler.
Donna loved to read, "cut a rug," cook from scratch, give gifts, and hug babies -- and there have been many to hug. Her very favorite thing was her family. Survivors include: sister Glenda Mitchell of Davenport, WA; daughters Marie (Duane) Barrett of Albany, OR, Pam (Ron) Noble of McCall, ID, Fran (Art) Goldsmith of Lake Stephens, WA, and son Jim (Kathy) Mitchell of Oak Park, IL. Grandchildren: Teresa Noble, Tina Noble, and Todd Noble (Beth Vawter) of Boise, ID, Shannon (John) Stephen of Albany, OR, Sharlene Thomas of Philomath, OR, Mike (Shelly) Barrett of Tualatin, OR, Stacy (Jim) Stewart of Bel Air, MD, Andrew (Christine) Mitchell of Oak Park, IL, and Kevin Jacobson of Edmonds, WA. Great-grandchildren include Cody (Ashley) Rood, Jenny Rood, Ashley Butler, Sydney Amigo, Tyler Thomas, Amaya Amigo, Haley Thomas, Samantha Wright, Mitchell Thomas, Danielle Fenison, Jacob Stephen, Rachael Stephen, Kinzie Jacobson, Bryan Thomas, Allison Stewart, Jack Barrett, Flynn Mitchell, Gabrielle Barrett, Fiona Mitchell, Grady Noble, Chloe Stewart, and Ellery Noble. Great-great-grandchildren are Austin and Afton Rood. She is also survived by niece Vicki (Rob) Morcom of Davenport, WA, and their children, as well as numerous other special nieces and nephews throughout the country. At a family reunion about 5 years ago, Donna took a look at the more than 50 family members present and said, "Look what I've done…all of mine and all of those they have chosen…. and there's not a bad one in the bunch!"
We miss her already.
