Glade Thompson Fifield passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho due to heart failure complicated by a battle with cancer and pneunonia. Glade was born May 2, 1929 in Preston, Idaho the son of Iva Thompson and Howard Fifield. His mother passed away when Glade was 7 years old and he was raised by his elderly grand parents, Thomas and Hanna Thompson. He graduated from Preston High School in 1948 and always talked of his love for Preston and the family there. He served in the United States Air Force as a young man in Biloxi, Mississippi during the Korean War and was honorably discharged due to rheumatic fever. He graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in business on the GI bill. He was employed for 30 years with Williamsen Trucking and also working for Idaho State University. Glade was a member of the Lion’s Club and was always involved with community causes.
Glade was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the capacity of High Priest. His real love was teaching Primary with his wife LaWanna.
He was married to Shirley Nelson in 1955, divorcing a short time later.
Glade married Janette Topham in 1965 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Glade became the stepfather to Warren Dale Evans, Lorraine Evans Chapman, and Mark T. Evans. Janette and Glad eventually divorced 1998.
Glade later met and married married LaWanna Roswell in the Idaho Falls Temple, March 26, 1999. LaWanna’s children are Jeraldene Brendle (Hal), Linda Barlow (Wayne), and Viki Henderson (Todd-deceased)
Between the two marriages Glade is survived by 6 step-children, 32 grandchildren and 59 great -grand children.
He loved traveling with LaWanna and taking her places she’d never seen. The last 8 years LaWanna and Glade wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They truly loved Arizona leaving cold Idaho winters behind. Glade served his wife,LaWanna faithfully as she faded into the disease of Alchemizes for the last 7 years, trying to do anything and all that he could do to stop her memory loss. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a step son in law. Glade is survived by his wife, LaWanna and a sister Barbara Johns In addition being survived by his step children, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, Glade is survived by many beloved and cherished cousins that he was forever talking about.
Graveside services will be held in the Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Weston, Idaho Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rights by the Veterans Honor Guard.
