Tharol G. Porter

Tharol George Porter, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his home in Idaho Falls. He was born March 11, 1927, in Mapleton, Idaho, to George Riley and Laverna Carter Wanner Porter. Tharol grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945.
He married Mae Gregory on May 25, 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Tharol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various positions including ward clerk, magazine representative, librarian, Logan Temple Baptistry and as a home teacher.
He loved gardening and enjoyed sports, especially BYU and Colorado Rockies baseball. Tharol was also an avid reader. He loved time spent with his family.
He is survived by his children, Shauna (Con) Decker of Rigby, Roxann (Carl) Owen of Iona, Rick (Brenda) Porter of Farmington, Utah, and Stan (Carol) Porter of Evanston, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Rey (Karen) Porter and Rhoud (Susan) Porter; and four sisters, Ivalue Johnson, Georgia (Richard) Baker, Joen May and Seles (Frank) Price.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae; a son, Dennis; a grandson, Jerry Hodges; six brothers, Floyd, Ira, Mark, Arlo, Marlin and Lanny; as well as two sisters, Coradean and Saramae.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses with Hands of Hope Hospice for the loving care they gave to both their mother and father.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston, Idaho, with Bishop Boyd Southwick conducting. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.
