LAYTON – Charles Leth Maughan, 85, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He was born August 9, 1928 in Dayton, Idaho the son of Charles Parkinson and Carrie Kirstina Leth Maughan. Charles married Shirley Sykes on January 11, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He served an LDS mission to the Northwestern States, served in several bishoprics, as bishop and worked with the scouts. He owned and operated a general store in Monteview, Idaho and retired from Hill Air Force Base.
Charles liked airplanes, cars, mechanics, gardening, yard work, camping, fishing, golfing, playing the piano and organ and any activity involving family.
Surviving are his wife Shirley, Layton; sons, David (Lydia) Maughan, Mesa, AZ; Trent (Marione) Maughan, Meridian, ID; Eric (Debbie) Maughan, West Haven, UT; daughters, Ann (Kent) Hansen, Monteview, ID; Celia (Fred) Dumas, Sandy, UT; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, brothers, Dean L. Maughan, Layton, UT; Gaylord L. Maughan, Monteview, ID; Gary L. Maughan, Mattawa, WA; and sister, Rhea Anderson, Bountiful, UT.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dale L. Maughan, sister, Marion Synderguard and great-grandson, Charlie Eric Maughan.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Hills Ward, 1050 E. 3250 N., Layton, UT. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
