Larna McDermott Henderson died peacefully in her home in St George, Utah on August 12, 2014. After years of enduring medical adversity with grace and humor she is now in a lovely place where she is pain free, relaxed and mobile! She will be missed by many people who dearly love her.

Larna was born on February 26, 1932 at home during a blizzard in Clifton, Idaho to Lawrence and Lona McDermott. She was the fifth of six children—Elene Keller, Dorma Schow, Doran McDermott, Bill McDermott (all deceased) and Ramona Harrington. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother. She grew up in Clifton, where she spent much of her time helping on the family farm (and way too much time thinning beets!). She graduated from Westside High School in Dayton, Idaho in 1950 and went to nurses training at LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She graduated in 1954 and worked for Dr Davis in Idaho Falls for years until she moved to Boise.

Larna met Dale Henderson, the love of her life, at a church dance and they were married on May 7, 1955. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They are the proud parents of four daughters—Michelle, Rhonda, Camille and Cherie. Larna and Dale moved their little family to Boise in 1967, where they lived happily for many years. Larna worked for St Lukes Hospital in Labor and Delivery for many happy years. She was the head nurse and taught many birthing classes during her career. She eventually left St Lukes to go to work for Gustave Rosenheim, MD. He was an obstetrician and she loved helping with pregnancies and births in his office until her retirement. Larna's kindness and interest in others allowed her to befriend many people over the years. She was always involved with family, patients and friends alike and was a listening ear to many people during her life. She had a gift for listening with compassion and helping find solutions for every problem. She loved people and delighted in making new friends and enjoying old ones. She especially loved her daughters and their families. She was always interested in what everyone was doing and loved for her grandkids to demonstrate the latest technology to her. Larna is beloved by her posterity and they will always remember their spunky, funny grandma who always wanted to talk about their lives and hear their thoughts.

Larna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served over the years as a Primary President, Young Women President, Relief Society Teacher and Counselor and many other callings. She loved to work with the young women and she was gifted at relating to them. Dale and Larna served a mission for the LDS Church in Paducah, Texas on a cattle farm owned by the church. She loved cooking for the missionaries and hauling them around in her van when they ran out of miles. She mostly loved serving the Lord with her sweetheart.

Larna and Dale left Boise and retired to Island Park, Idaho where they lived in a beautiful log home they built with help from family. They loved to snow mobile and fish and golf there with their friends. They eventually relocated to St George where they lived warmly and happily and made more new friends. Larna suffered many medical problems but never let any of that get in the way of enjoying her life. She truly exemplified enduring graciously to the end and diligently keeping her covenants.

Larna is survived by her beloved husband Dale Henderson and her daughters Michelle (Curtis) DeYoung; Rhonda (Nolan) Taylor; Camille (Brad) Miller; and Cherie (Lance) Scoffield. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren—Nicole Ihler, Andrea Ginnochio, Candace DeYoung, Hailee DeYoung, Chase Taylor, Lincoln Taylor, Abigail Bean, Preston Taylor, Quinn Taylor, Zachary Miller, Justin Miller, Morgan Miller, McKenna Miller, Carson Miller, Nicholas Scoffield, Sydney Scoffield, Harrison Scoffield, Reece Scoffield and nine great grandchildren—Addison, Cooper, Delainey, Taggart, Tean, Beck, Greyson, Nash and Lincoln. She is also survived by her sister Ramona Harrington, her beloved sister-in-law Doreen Curtis and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Larna will be held on Friday August 15th 2014 at the LDS Chapel on 511 South Valley View Drive, St. George, Utah at 11:00 am with a viewing prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will take place on August 16th in Swan Lake, Idaho at 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Heideman Hughes Mortuary 435-674-5000.
