Jensine (Cena) Marsh (1925-2013) Obituary

Deseret News, 06/11/13

Jensine (Cena) Marsh, passed away Saturday June 8, 2013 at her home in Preston Idaho, following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Jensine was born April 23 1925, in Tomah, Wisconsin, the sixth of eight daughters of Henry and Edith Johannessen. The family returned to Idaho Falls Idaho, in 1929 where she was raised and educated, graduating with the class of 1943, and earning a Letter in Basketball. After graduating, she moved to Salt Lake City to work at one of the many military contractors supporting the war effort. During a night on the town, with an older sister, she met a "handsome Lieutenant" at a dance club in downtown Salt Lake City. As the story goes, he came to her rescue that night, and twelve months later they were married on October 30th 1945. That marriage to Walter E. Marsh lasted fifty six years, ending at his death on March 12, 2001.
She retired from Sperry Univac as a Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department after 34 years.
Jensine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities in the Relief Society. Her love of quilting brought many women of the Relief Society together, hand stitching quilts and blankets to be donated to needy children at Primary Childrens Hospital. Her love of dolls as a child, continued throughout her life, and with her sisters, she crafted, dressed and pampered hundreds of handmade porcelain dolls. She had an amazing ability to make and keep friends. From her earliest days as a child and wherever she traveled throughout the world, she added to that long list of friends. She was the driving force in organizing her 50th class reunion in 1993, and only missed the 70th reunion this year because of her failing health. Her keen mind and memory for facts and details provided hours of wonderful stories for her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Kristine Jones (Alan) Sandy Utah, Susan McQueen Preston Idaho, Kevin Marsh (Leslie) Riverton Utah. Two sisters, Joanna Koester (Dale) Downey Idaho, Jalna Searle Shelley Idaho. Eleven Grandchildren and Twenty-nine Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday June 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitney 2nd Ward 1444 South 1600 East Preston, Idaho. He served for nearly 20 years in the stake presidency of the Tulsa, Oklahoma Stake. He later served as Regional Representative over the Oklahoma, Missouri, and West Texas regions. After Veigh retired from Phillips, Veigh and Janet compassionately served in the LDS England Coventry Mission as Mission President to the British people and to many missionaries who became like sons and daughters to them. A few years later, after settling in Salt Lake, Veigh and Janet shared their great love of the eternity of families as they served together as Temple President and Matron in Dallas, Texas.
What mattered most to Veigh during his life were his family, his testimony of the gospel, and finding ways to serve others. His church service gave him ample opportunities to provide counsel to those struggling with problems, to provide guidance to young men and women as they looked toward their futures, and to share his testimony of Jesus Christ, the eternal value of families, and the importance of missionary and temple work.
Veigh loved his country, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He remained interested and involved in politics until his last years. He was able to share this love of country as he served in positions of leadership in the Boy Scouts of America. For this service he was awarded the Silver Beaver.
Education was important to Veigh. He attended the University of Utah and Harvard Business School. He helped his own children to earn college degrees, and encouraged other young people to do the same. In his later years he helped international students to gain college educations in the United States via the BYU Cardon International Scholarship program. As a result, his influence is felt globally.
As his children, we will miss Dad for his great love for us. We will miss his teasing and his puns (often groan-worthy). We will miss his great example of devotion to eternal principles, his gentlemanly manners, and the devoted, loving father he was to each of us.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet, his brother, Kay, and his sister, Beth (Renshaw). He will be greatly missed by his children Dina (Randy) Wyatt, Kathy Richardson, Veigh (Marilyn), Henry (Diane), David, Jan (Andy) Christensen as well as his 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28, 12 noon, at the Eagle Gate Stake Center, 135 A Street. Friends may call Monday, May 27, 6-8:30 p.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Tuesday, 10:30-11:30 a.m., at the Stake Center. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Richard Lee Umbel (1945-2013) Obituary

Logan Herald Journal, 05/21/13

PRESTON, IDAHO — Richard Lee Umbel of Preston, Idaho, died peacefully May 19, 2013, after only 67 short years with us. Rich leaves an undying legacy of compassion, dedication, strength, courage and endless love. All who were lucky enough to know Rich have been forever enriched through his example and wisdom and in us he will live on in the spirit he left us.

Rich was born at home July 16, 1945, in Uniontown, Pa., along with his twin sister. Rich graduated from Fairchance Georges High School in 1963 and shortly thereafter left his hometown for adventure in the West. Rich married Nadine Keller on March 13, 1965, in Riverdale, Idaho. The highlight of Rich’s life was his wife, children and grandchildren. Rich never missed a ballgame, school play, pageant, graduation, or any activity his children or grandchildren were involved in. Rich’s dedication to his family never wavered, even as his own health deteriorated. For Rich, nothing in the world was more valuable to him than his family.

Rich took joy in the simple things of life. He would spend endless hours planning his garden and harvesting the produce. Rich would beam with excitement for his family to try his new recipe or garden bounty. Rich loved to cook and Dutch oven cooking was his specialty. He taught many people how to cook with an open fire and carefully tended many pots of food for community and family events. It was not unusual for Rich to box up an extra serving of food and take it to an invalid or ill friend. Rich was a kid at heart and had a love for life that was contagious. He would spend hours playing board games and video games with the family. Rich was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and decorated his home and yard with Steeler items for all to share. Christmas was Rich’s favorite time of year and he has been known to leave his Christmas tree up year-round and just change the ornaments to fit the season. Rich would start in October putting out his Christmas yard displays.

Rich shared his talents and enthusiasm with the community and church through his many volunteer activities. Rich was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in ward and stake leadership through this period. Rich was involved in the Boy Scout program including organizing a troop for Scouts with disabilities, serving on the Eagle review board, and earning the Silver Beaver award. While a merchant, Rich was involved in the Preston Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board for six years and as president for two years. Rich was elected as the Franklin County assessor beginning in 1995 and proudly served in this elected position for 16 years. Rich felt it was an honor to serve Franklin County and would often open the office on a weekend to issue license plates to help someone in need. Rich filled every hour with work, family and community activities and leaves his family with pride at his every accomplishment.

Rich was plagued in his later years with various health ailments. Despite his weakened condition, Rich continued to work tirelessly in his various work and community positions. Even though he was ill and often tired, Rich never complained and continued to smile despite these challenges. Rich’s strength and perseverance will be remembered because, through his effort, we were able to enjoy him for many years as he kept his personal challenges to himself.

Rich is survived by his wife of 48 years Nadine Keller Umbel; children Sandra (Roch) Clapp of Eagle, Idaho, Richard (Sandi) Umbel of Grand Junction, Colo., and Christa (Adam) Smith of Boise, Idaho. Rich’s true joy has been his grandchildren Bryce Umbel, Jordan Umbel, Auriana Clapp-Younggren, MacKenzie Clapp, Dante Rock, Dason Rock, Tatiana Smith, Amiyah Smith, Urijah Smith, Haley Smith and Mikayla Chaney; and his mother-inlaw Betty Henderson. Rich was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Mary Umbel and sisters Mary Elizabeth (Mame) Hunt and Delores Gasper. Rich is also survived by his brother Andrew Umbel of Cleveland, Ohio, Marge Auger of Preston, Idaho, and his twin sister Barbara Marcus of Hopwood, Pa.

A remembrance of Rich’s life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the 8th Ward church, 213 S. 200 East in Preston, with Bishop Jerry Petterborg conducting.

Salt Lake Tribune, 04/17/13

Born June 22, 1917 at Daniels, Idaho to Minnie and Felix Feller. She was the oldest of five children. She attended elementary and middle school in Weston, Idaho. In high school, she played forward on a girls basketball team even though she was only 4' 10". Continuously excelling in school, she graduated as valedictorian of Weston High in 1935. After high school she attended Henager Business College on a scholarship while working as a nanny to several families. She began a relationship with Tom Egbert after his return from his mission in Oklahoma; they married in Nov. of 1936. As a hardworking team they raised four children and ran several businesses. First a dairy, then a men's clothing store, and later Tom's Confectionary. After the confectionary burned twice in one year, they regrouped and went to Brighton Canyon and opened Uncle Tom's cabin, a restaurant at Silverfork which eventually became Silverfork Lodge.
After selling their business, Dad went to work for Wolf's Sporting Goods and Mom became one of the most successful seamstresses in Salt Lake City. She designed and created hundreds of wedding dresses, frequently making dresses for several generations of brides in some families. Often she would make all the dresses for several weddings, as many as 12-18 in many cases. In the 90's, she did alterations for Scruples, a high end boutique in Holladay. She became the go to person for many patrons who knew Elva could do any type of alteration. Costumers would repeatedly buy an item several sizes too big and on sale knowing she could make it work.
One summer she helped the Navy make a glove for a mechanical hand designed for an underwater vehicle they were building
Throughout the years, she continued doing some alterations for people until her eyesight began to fail. However, she continued to crochet hundreds of Afghans, make quilts, weave rag rugs, and work in her yard until her stroke at 94. In addition, she assisted several widowed neighbors with their affairs for years as she continued to remain as quick witted and sharp as a tack until the end.
She was a really remarkable person, wife and mother. She inspired many with her love and generosity and her infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all.
She passed on Monday, April 8th, 2013, leaving four children, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren:
Beverly Christensen, Plano, TX children, David Christensen/Garland TX , Brett Christensen/Pleasanton, CA, Sally Garcia/ Allen, TX, Laura Gilliam Allen, TX
James Egbert, Soda Springs, ID, children, Major James Egbert/San Antonio, TX, Troy Egbert/ Houston, TX, Cindy Sasso/Phoenix, AZ, Lee Egbert/Minneapolis, MN
Steven Egbert, Nephi, Utah, children, Steve Lindsey/Golden Colorado, Sunny Ledding/ Valerie Henson (deceased) children, Mike Henson/ Brooks Bernard.
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Cottonwood 4th Ward, 5565 South Neighbor Lane (1610 E) at Noon. She has now made her long anticipated and glorious reunion with her husband who preceded her in passing by nearly 20 years. Shirley was the fourth and youngest child of Howard and Selma Kern Johnson. She was born in the same home in Preston, Idaho in which her father was born and then died 91 years later.
After graduating from Preston High School, Shirley worked as the private secretary to the Chief and Assistant Chief of Operations at Hill Air Force Base, and held top-secret classification. She then attended BYU, graduated in accounting, and later became a CPA.
She married Victor H. Duke in the Salt Lake Temple on December 21, 1949. They were happily married for 44 years before he died in 1993. The young couple owned and operated two pharmacies in Magna and Kearns while Vic obtained his PhD at the University of Utah. They then lived in Albuquerque, NM, Laramie, WY, Missoula MT and finally Boise ID while Vic was a college professor. During this time Shirley practiced as a CPA and raised their three children. In 1985 they moved to Rexburg and resided there until Vic died in 1993. Shirley then moved to Bountiful UT to be near children and grandchildren.
Shirley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was beloved in the Bountiful 50th Ward. She was multi-talented with a beautiful soprano voice and a wonderful ability to lead the congregation in hymn. She served others throughout her life, especially as Relief Society President and Chorister. The ward looked forward to her annual July address expressing her devotion to the Savior and our heritage as citizens of the United States of America.
She spent countless hours tatting beautifully intricate snowflake ornaments that grace the Christmas trees of her children, grandchildren and many friends. She had a self-deprecating sense of humor and spent many hours living and loving her grandchildren who all miss her greatly already.
Shirley leaves behind her three children, S. Jean Haugness, Jonathan M. Duke and James V. Duke, eight grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her three siblings and one grandchild.
A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N.
Frank Camilo Profaizer (1917-2013) Obituary

Preston Citizen, 04/03/13

Frank Camilo Profaizer passed away on March 27, 2013, while at the Sunshine Terrace Nursing Home in Logan, Utah. Frank was born Jan. 9, 1917, to Lucille Adele Bertagnolli and Charles Profaizer in Superior, Wyo. Frank’s father passed away when Frank was only 11 years old, which gave him the opportunity to grow physically and mentally tough. His claim in life was never having lost a fight, yet with his family he never used that strength to discipline his children. His love for his wife Adelia was everlasting and they worked together to raise six sons.

Frank married Salina Cascio and had one daughter, Barbara Lucille Profaizer. They later divorced. Frank then married Adelia Lapray, the love of his life. Adelia brought two sons to their marriage and together they had one daughter who died in infancy and four sons. After Adelia passed away in 1988 Frank married Della Egley. Frank became a widower again when Della passed away on July 25, 2010.

After Frank’s father passed away, his widowed mother moved the family to a small farm on Wilson Lane in Ogden, Utah, to be close to her brother. There, Frank learned to love farming where he worked many hours to help his mother support the family. He would eventually purchase a truck with his brother Charles to haul produce from Ogden to Rock Springs and Superior, Wyo. This began another love of being a truck driver. Before World War II he worked as a carpenter helping build the massive buildings at the Defense Depot in Ogden and then during the war he worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield overseeing 60 plus men to ship supplies to the coast in support of the war. Frank engineered a device to hold partial loads in place while the trains were moved from one warehouse to another which was later mass produced by the Stanley tool company and is still used today. After the war he went back to being a truck driver while raising his family on small farms.

Frank loved to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors his entire life. He moved his family from Wilson Lane to Hooper and then to Roy and Farr West, Utah. To give the family more room to grow they moved to a larger farm in Preston, Idaho and he would eventually retire to a small home in Weston, Idaho and after the death of Adelia to a home in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

Frank is survived by his children Richard L. Cope (Pat) of Kingman, Ariz., Barbara Profaizer Winkler of San Jose, Calif., Frank C. Profaizer Jr. (LeAnna) of Layton, Utah, Douglas R. Profaizer (Janet) of Hyde Park, Utah, Robert D. Profaizer (Gayle) of Tremonton, Utah, and Charles J. Profaizer (Tammy) of Logan, Utah. His posterity includes 32 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wives Adelia Lapray and Della Egley, children Gary B. Cope and Patricia Adelia Profaizer, parents and siblings.

The family would like to thank the staff and many caregivers of Sunshine Terrace for the love and concern given to Frank. They have been there to make his life comfortable and be his attending angels until he was called home to a grand reunion in the spirit world.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the LDS church in Weston, Idaho, with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 prior to the services. Interment was at the Weston Idaho cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Webb Funeral Home of Preston, Idaho.

Idaho State Journal, 03/15/13

PRESTON-Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Virgia Vinora Hansen Dursteler passed away at the age of 91 on March 13, 2013, in Preston, Idaho. She was the first child of six born to Niels Wilford Hansen and Tora Virgia Wilde in Mink Creek, Idaho. The snow was higher than the fence posts on December 20, 1921, but that didn’t stop Vinora’s arrival with a little tuff of red hair at her neck. Being raised on the family farm delighted Vinora. She grew into a beautiful strawberry blonde and Randell Long Dursteler fell in love with her and proposed on their second date. They were married in the Franklin County Courthouse on Feb. 17, 1941, and their union was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on Jan. 13, 1943.

Their first home was in the High Sierras of California. That was timber country and they loved their tiny cabin in the pines of Plumas. After World War II, Randy and Vinora made their home in Preston, Idaho. Their children Randa Kathrine, Marlin Wade and Kimberly Ane enjoyed many happy years in a home where love, honor, mutual respect and friendship was key and strived for each day. Vinora loved being a wife, a mother and a homemaker. Her natural abilities and talent for the arts and gardening made their home beautiful and comfortable. Vinora’s quality touch was in everything she did.

She loved to sew and embroider, sketch and paint, ride horses, play cards and horseshoes, and go fishing and camping with her sweetheart and children. When her grandchildren started arriving all was expanded to include each one in all the campouts and cookouts and fishing trips. Vinora could do anything!

She served in many capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She especially enjoyed the Franklin Stake Beehives, the nursery children in the Preston Second Ward and a 13 year mission as a French Extractor in the Family History Department. Being a good neighbor and a good visiting teacher meant the world to Vinora.

She was preceded in death by her dear ones, Randell and Randa, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Smout Dursteler; by a son-in-law, Ray N. Keller; by three sisters, Adria Mecham, MarDene Sparrow and Ane Ora Nielson and by a brother, Wilford Hugh Hansen.
