Hi, Carolyn--

I am researching Idaho businesses that used trade tokens. I also keep notes from newspapers and other sources on individuals who may well have used them, but where no tokens are currently known. One of the latter is John M. Butler of Shoshone. Here is what I have on him so far:

Shoshone Journal 11 Apr 1902 article: J. M. Butler, who has been in the saloon business in Shoshone for several years, has taken out the saloon and bar and will run a first class restaurant.

Shoshone Journal 12 Dec 1902 ad: Stockmen’s Café (an earlier ad said wine, liquor, & cigars) / J. M. Butler, prop.

Lincoln County Commissioner's minutes regarding liquor licenses:
Butler, J. M. / Shoshone 1 Sep 1898 license approved
Butler, J. M. / Shoshone 1 Dec 1898 license approved
Butler, John M. / Shoshone 10 Jan 1899 license approved
Butler, John M. / Shoshone 14 Jul 1899 license approved
Butler, J. M. / Shoshone 14 Apr 1900 liquor license at $125/quarter
Butler, J. M. / Shoshone 1 Jul 1900 liquor license at $75/quarter
Butler, John M. 1 Jul 1900 license bond approved

Hope this helps! John
