MALAD — James Leland Goddard, 79, lifelong Malad resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, following complications related to stroke and heart failure.
James was born in Malad, Idaho on March 18, 1933, to Leland and Florence Nettie Goddard. He was raised and educated in Malad and was a 1951 graduate of Malad High School. He attended a year of college at Utah State University, after which he served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He married Donna Faye Swenson on June 8, 1962, in Malad. They made their home in St. John, just west of Malad, where they farmed and ranched. He was well-known for his integrity and hard work in raising quality crops and cattle.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

James’ greatest love was his family, and he would do anything for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved being with his family more than anything.

James loved the outdoors, where he both worked and played. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horseshoeing, billiards, and golf. Later in his life, he found great joy spending winters at their second home in Yuma, Arizona.

James was fun-loving, serving, kind, and generous to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Donna; his three children, Tracy (Mike) Burden of Nampa, Idaho, James (Tonya) Goddard of Layton, Utah, and Jerry (Heidi) Goddard of Malad; including 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Don) Gilbert of Elko, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, (Richard and Roger).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may visit with the Goddard family on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., and again at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will follow with military rites at the Malad City Cemetery.
