Maria Griffiths Jones passed away peacefully early in the morning on January 14, 2014. She’s having a great reunion with her husband, Larell, who passed away over 26 years ago, and her family and friends. Maria was born on May 2, 1920 in Malad, Idaho to Thomas Morgan and Ida Palmer Griffiths. She was the second of six children and grew up and went to school in Malad. She married Larell Jones on June 7, 1941 in Malad. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on June 22, 1948.

Following her marriage, she moved to California for a short time with Larell while he served in the Armed Forces during World War II, after which they would return to Malad, eventually build the home that Maria lived in for 50 years, raise their four boys, and be a central point for visits from family, especially at Thanksgiving time.

Maria was an active member of the LDS Church and served for many years as the President of the primary in the Malad 1st Ward, and thereafter serving in the Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. She was a very faithful visiting teacher as well as the provider of many meals for neighbors and rides to church for those needing transportation . She was a true example of how to be of service to others.

She spent the last 8 years of her life in 3 assisted living centers in Orem, Utah where she could be much closer to her immediate family. The family would like to thank the staffs of those centers for their loving care and support. In addition we would like to especially thank Brent and Sheree for the countless hours they spent taking care of and providing assistance for mother.

Maria is survived by her children: Jerry L. (Carolyn) Jones of Nampa, Idaho; Gail Jones of Orem, Utah; Thomas David (Jan) Jones of Taylorsville, Utah; and Brent G. (Sheree) Jones of Orem, Utah; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and sister Ilene Corbridge of Malad, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and one grandson.

The family suggests donations be made to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 2 pm in the Malad LDS 6th Ward, 400 North 200 West. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday at the same location prior to services from 12 noon to 1:30 pm. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery. Arrangements are under under the care and direction of Horsley Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.horsleyfu  neralhome.com  .
