William P. BROOKS died in Adams Co, Ill in 1878. He was born in Oct 1813 in Chatham Co.,NC. He first married Almeta BUNCH of Wake Co., NC in 1839. He had two children by her, Sarah and Thomas Jefferson BROOKS. First wife died bet 1846-50. By 1850 Wm. P. is in Ill and has married a Lovina HICKS also from NC. He leaves his children to be raised by their maternal grandparents in NC, and with Lovina raises her son a Lindsey J. HICKS. In 1892 Lindsey J. HICKS buys the property of Wm P. from te BROOKS children in Northeast Township. He seems also to have to get permission from a Martha J. CLARKE, wife of E.A. CLARKE to obtain the property. In the NC censuses, Wm. P. only had two children, and in the Ill census, Lovina was listed with only one when she married Wm. P. I would really like to know if anyone could help find the parents of William P. He is drawing blanks in NC. Also who is this Martha J. CLARKE? I think maybe she is an older sister of Lindsey. Wm P. is buried in Northeast Township.
